It reminds me of my last relationship cuz my ex had this girl who he'd always go back to when he was single and through out our relationship, I didn't feel comfortable about it and now that we're not together, I don't know how I'm supposed to still fit into his life when he's got this other girl whose always been there.

I loveee that part.
The line "I've got these "friends" in quotes / and girls* with asterisks" is him saying he doesn't have any real/good friends, and he's got girls that he's close to, but none that he's dating (becasue he's with the girl at collage).
The line "You said the distance / Would make a difference / But it didn't" could be that him and her were having problems before she left, and she told him that going away could help this.

My take on that line is perhaps she said to him: "Hey when i move away, i'll be too far away and you'll get over me" And he didn't.

To me this kind of goes against the rest of the song, which seems to suggest that the distance is making a difference. Anyone agree? Disagree?
