I gave me away, I could have knocked off the evening
But I lonelily landed my waltz in her hands
In a way, I felt you were leaving me
I was sure I wouldn't find you at home

And you let me down, you could have knocked off the evening
But you lonelily let him push under your bone
You let me down, it's no use deceiving
Neither of us wanna be alone

And you're coming home
You're coming home
And you're coming home
You're coming home

I gave me away, I could have knocked off the evening
But I was lonelily looking for someone to hold
In a way, I lost all I believed in
And I never found myself so low

And you let me down, you could've called if you'd needed
But you lonelily got yourself locked in instead
And you let me down, it's one thing being cheated
But you took him all the way through your bed

And now you're coming home
And I'm trying to forgive, you're coming home
And I'm trying to forget, you're coming home
And I'm trying to move on, you're coming home
And you haven't called yet, you're coming home

And I'm trying to forgive, you're coming home
I'm just trying to forget, you're coming home
I'm trying to move on, you're coming home
But you haven't called, you're coming home
You're coming home, you're coming home
You're coming home

I gave me away, I could have knocked off the evening
But I lonelily loomed her into my bone
You let me down, there's no use deceiving
Neither of us wanna be alone

She cheated on him, but he cheated on her. It's like what its delicate said. It's about trying to forgive each other. He wants to forgive and forget what they both did. It's not just what she did, it's about the fact that he was unfaithful too. In the chorus, he addresses what she did in the way he keeps repeating "You're coming home, and I'm trying to forget," but he also addresses what he did when he says "and you haven't called yet." He's worried that neither one will be able to forgive the other.

Despite being about infidelity, I don't think this is a sad song. It's not about wallowing in the hurt and regret, it's about trying to push past the pain and regret, and trying to remember how much they love each other.

This song is about giving a part of yourself to someone in a relationship. It's not something that you necessarily had to do, but something that the fear of being alone led you to do.

In this relationship, you have to deal with the other person's infidelity. They didn't just cheat with their body, but with their complete heart and soul.

Time has seperated the two parties, but as the distance closes and as you come closer to home, you try to forgive and forget what has happened. It's an endless cycle of having expectations and being let down, but it still beats being lonely.

This song to me right now, sings about the exact situation i am currently in.

My girlfriend has been out of the country for a month, during the first weeks she called every night, until one night 2 weeks ago she stopped, i tried calling a few times to make sure she is safe, but after i find out she is okay i start to wonder why she could not have at least texted or returned my calls until 4 in the morning. 2 days later she calls and tells me she wants to take a break from the relationship, which did not make any sense, we were already apart, i knew something was wrong.

The morning after i called a friend who was in the same country as she is in, and he told he saw my girlfriend getting chummy with a dude at a bar and found out that they have been hanging out alot, she never mentioned anything about this guy before, i guess i was right.

That night i found an old friend of mine and we had sex, i love my girlfriend and wanted to do something to match what she had done, partly out of spite, and mostly out of being able to see her again without feeling hurt, knowing i did the same while she was away. Every night after, i would call my girlfriend, and if she did not return my calls i would have sex with that girl, thinking about what she could be doing and i would match it on my side, kind of like a poker game, you raise, i call...

This went on for 2 weeks, and she called today to ask how i was doing, never mentioning that guy, i never mentioned what i did with that girl. I guess we both knew who we really wanted to come home to.

She told me she missed me and we booked a flight to meet somewhere we could get away together, i knew what she did, and i knew what i did, i love her and i do not want to let what happened get in our way, i slept with another woman so that i would not let what she did bother me. This left me empty, i had believed in more.

But now that we will actually be seeing each other soon, i am still hurt to know she started this cycle first, and i would have to face that hurt when i finally see her.

Many would probably disagree with what i am doing, and about whether this song applies to what i am going through, but today, this season, this song sing to me exactly what i am going through.

wow. i love it - that last verse when he says

"I gave me away I could have knocked off the evening But I lonelily loomed her into my bone"

it makes me shiver - how realistically and genuine he sings - that man has pure talent.

these two people are in love. they are away from each other and while away from each other they cheat.... but cheat in a very deep sense. not just sex... but more... like an emotional affair. he realizes how terrible it is what hes done. he also gets upset at the woman, saying, you may have been lonely but you could have called and you cheated on me and that she let him down.

he realizes that they just dont want to be lonely. and shes coming back from being away and hes trying to forgive and forget and let it all go as she makes her way back.

i think at the end of the songs he gets past it all realizing that they both didnt want to be alone.

its a very beautiful song. i love how he goes back and forth from blaming himself to getting upset with the woman. excellent. its true to the thought process... well, mine at least.

@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Silent Planet
I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.

There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
