General Comment:So, just an observation, the song is based off a few chords in which a certain note he slides up an octave. Could the rising of this note be a reference to the tension inside a person as they reach an orgasm? Just a thought.

General Comment:Ok, to establish, Damien Rice is from Kildare/Dublin. Hence he is using very Dubliny slang with the word 'yoke'. There have been a lot of meanings to that word thrown around on this comments section. BUT, trust me, I'm a Dubliner, and I can say without any doubt, he is using the Dubliner meaning of 'yoke', which is generally a term meaning 'thing'. In Damien's Case, his penis.

SO, on that establishment, the song title generally means; 'Me, my penis, and me'.

You can probably guess correctly the entire song now that I have cleared up that bit for you (every guy, at least). This song is VERY simple, there is very little that is too profound in this song. Even the music. It is ONE musical line throughout the entire song, at different levels of intensity.

My drum (my penis... you beat it off)
"My drum, gonna make you come (cum)"

    My book (My life story)
"My book, gonna make you look" (My life story is beginning now that I am discovering love/sex, I'm gonna make it a good one, or at least a full one!)

"My hand goin under" (You really need a description? Just guess...:-))
"My hand gonna understand" (Getting used to the idea of sexuality and masturbation)

"My fall..." (I'll admit, I find this one harder to understand... I would guess it means the fall from innocence, after all, now that you have discovered sex, you're not all that innocent any more)
"My fall, gonna break your wall" (Past the wall of insecurity/doubt on this subject)

"I'm in like a big dog" (I'm no longer a stranger to this crazy world of 'sex' and such, I'm a big boy now.)

"My god gave me a rod, for fishin'" (Acceptance of his thing between his legs. His god made him sexual, he's gonna act on it!!)

It's not too difficult a song to understand! Every guy has been through this! :-) It is a song about a teenage boy discovering his body and himself for the first time. And his journey to accepting his sexuality and eventually "f%&$ it, god gave me this thing for a reason, I'm going to use it". Even the intensity of the way he sings the lines gets more and more as he sings through the song, by the end, he is virtually fully confident and shouting them out.

General Comment:I think this song is about Damien's frustrations with his sexual urges and his inability to remain faithful to a partner. He's basically saying that he has this musical gift and musical talent seems to attract many women to him and unfortunately he doesn't have the ability to resist.

My drum....my book- Here he's saying that his music brings all sorts of people to him.

My hand going under...that's the only line i can't really de-code.

My fall .... His fall from his morals is going to shatter his girlfriend when she finds out about his infidelities.

I'm made like a big dog cause my god gave me a rod for fishing.

He's pissed because God gave him both the talent that his luring these women in and a sex drive that makes it nearly impossible to not give in to temtation.

    Just my two cents.

General Comment:I didn't even need to understand the lyrics the first time to know this song was about sex.

"Cause my god, my god, my god
    Gave me a rod
My god, my god, my god
    Gave me a rod

    For fishing, fishing, fishing
    Fishing, fishing, fishing, yeah"

Some of the most primal lyrics I've ever read in my life.

General Comment:I saw a video where Damien says that the song is about a "friend" who one day found something flopping between his legs and when he found out what it was for, he felt so guilty that he prayed daily to god.

What I find fascinating about the song is that it's played by sliding from A minor to the 10th fret, then F major to the 10th fret, which is that cool slide. But if you watch it, it looks like he's jerking his guitar. Given Damien's fascination with sex and his confusions with it, I don't think this is an accident.

General Comment:Honestly, I thought this song was about a fisher mad at the fish because he can't catch the fish and stuff... I was wrong

Anyways I did research and Damien Rice says at concerts that a man was lonely and figured out masterbation and donated sperm until he couldn't no more, so I don't this is about a man not Damien, well I think so.
You know Damien: Sweet smile, dirty mind ;)

    But back to the meanings

You beat on a drum, and your well, you know
    Book means pornograpy
    Hand, haha well your hand
Breaking a wall, virginity but the man is lonely so makes perfect sence
I'm mad like a big dog, well a dog is active when it sees something attractive, realtionsions to guys, lol?
My god give me a rod, The man needs a "part" that works, or it's probably small
For fishing, the man is lonely needs a woman

Note: Lisa doesn't sing with Damien in the song ha ha, independent song for men, well Damien Rice and his little lonely friend
