Lyrics for As Your Voice Fades as interpreted by all_is_vanity

As Your Voice Fades Lyrics
somebody please tell me
what am I suppose to do
you died and i'm here
thinking that i hear your voice,
but it's somebody else
it's always somebody else
why did you die?
don't leave me please
i beg you God tonight bring me peace
i'll never sleep without the dreams of you alive here with me
the brightness left your eyes
as i held your face
don't tell me it's the right time
and your last words will sustain me
until my end...until i see you again
while words (your life) evade me (but a moment)
i'll wait to (i'll cling to) remember you (forever)
and what you had (your words) meant to me (on my blood)
could never be forgotten
the chains (why) of death (don't take)
are falling (away), but my heart still bleeds
it longs for (why) the day (did you die)
when we will be as one

As blackfang said, this song is obviously about his grandmother passing. But it does have a Christian influence to it when he says "until I see you again" and "but my heart still bleeds it longs for the day when we will be as one, one, one" talking about meeting again in the afterlife or heaven. Although many songs written by emery can be somewhat interpreted as being about Christ/God, none states it more clear than "the Secret", if your interested.

In an interview, Toby said that this song was written in the days after his grandmother died. They were extremely close. It's describing Toby's grandma dying in a hospital, and can apply to any close friend dying.

Give up the debates about religion...I'm not religous but I like this band. You know what I think? I think if people see meanings about Jesus in the lyrics to this song then thats fine. And I think if people see meaninging of a person in their life who died then that is also fine. I think watever you find in the song lyrics is fine and true to you. Who knows what the f.ck most songs are about?! I mean only the person who wrote it knows. And still its what it means to THEM! It can mean different things to different people... and that is the beauty of lyrics lol. Everyone has a different view on things. OK?! And jeesh this song is teh sh.t!

it seems like someone close to them died, I'm pretty sure its not god and I think they want to see him/her again and their sad that they are not there to share the moments with them

Nobody in any side can say that god exists or not (no even psychology, this science says that PROBABLY god is a need of certain part of our brain, but is just a theory). Also it is important to say that the world is not REAL! It is the interpretation that our senses say to us of the world. A blind person lives in a world different from a deaf one, as a poor person lives through it differently to richly, like that as what an atheist and a fanatic says.
Simply not even the dear science can reject it, not even the dear church can check it.

And recapturing the topic of the song, which seems that you almost all forgot it completely:
It is about someone who died, and FINAL POINT!.
Try not to be either fanatics or phenomena that believe say god does not exist is the today fashion.

Well i guess his grandmother is still a girl, lol.

I'm a little suprised how much anger is flowing in this thread. I am saddened to see Christians and non-Christians raging so hard.

Emery has stated that they're not a "Christian Band", but rather they're a "band of Christians". This said, a Chrisitan perspective will come out of all they're songs, more or less. It's simply what your world-view is. If you're a poor homeless man, that's how you'll see the world.

Ergo, just because this song does not directly reference the Crucifixion or the Resurection, it can still be viewed as 'Christian' in the sense that the band consists of Christians. But, the song is about losing his Grandmother. The song is no less valid to a Christian because of this. Not every song needs to be 'Hosanna' over and over again.

This is a beautiful song, and the crechendos and screamed parts are sublime. I am intrigued by the diversity of the opinions on the meaning here.

Having lost a very close family member, I can really identify with this song and what he is trying to say. I think for sure it about death and losing a loved one, and not about God... I am a Christian and can see where you are getting your arguments, but like Atreyukidd said, it just doesn't make much sense when really contrasted with the lyrics. And it is definitely not about a girl or a breakup. (Bambamjr2006) But hey, everyone has an opinion.

Well I read an interview where Josh Head from Emery himself said that this song was about Toby's grandma dying. Yes I know that Emery is a Christian band, wether they are labeled as one or not, its still a band composed of Christians, but that doesn't mean that all their songs have to be full of God and Jesus everyother lyric. BTW: I am a Christian, a strong one, a missionary if you will, even an evangelist.

They may not be under the genre, but they are
still considered.
They refer many lyrics as so by "him", meaning
God.
Look it up.

Like the last comment, I will NOT read through all these to get the full convo. but apparently a lot of people just don't really know that much about the band...they ARE Christian, they DO reference God a lot, but they also have said in an interview (look it up) that they are not in the "Christian" Genre for the sole purpose of sales. They said they would not be able to fill as many seats playing with a Christian venue as they would in others. SO, they are NOT A CHRISTIAN BAND!!! said so by Emery themselves...also, this song has no relation to God except for his belief in heaven "until I see you again" so don't try to make it something that it's not.

I'm not going to read through every comment,
if you didn't know this song was about his
grandmother who passed away.
If you think I'm just assuming, he actually
told everyone at a show I was at.

& for the first few comments I read through,
Emery is a Christian band, mainly every
song they relate to God someway, you'd know
that if youlooked through some of the lyrics.

I actually think this song is not about death, but about someone who has dramatically changed and therefore is not the same person anymore.

ok all of you are rediculous, noone here can confirm that god is either real or fake, no one idc what you say, i persoanlly believe that the idea of god is used to control people, necessary in the world but not real.
BUT NOW OT THE MEANING

this song is about having a love one die in front of you, and you dont know what to think, why this happened, and what can make you feel better. All you do is think of him/her and you keep imagining that theya re abck by thinking you see or hear them

I agree with Atreyukidd whole heartedly. I'm Christian, but come on, this is a screamo band. What do screamo bands sing about? GIRLS. Albeit, this is a much more mature take on a relationship, this is definitely about a girl, I sense that kind of connection right off the bat. And I'm not entirely sure that Emery ever sings about God, besides mentioning God passively a couple times. I mean, look at the other songs on that album, stuff like having sex to be closer, not wanting to break up with girlfriend, regretting doing so and so on. I mean, they sing about girls and relationships constantly, that's just what they do. Like Zao's lead singer always writes about dead friends and family and depression. It's just their platform. I think you brothers and sisters in Christ are just diluting yourselves to feel good about listening to this band. Get real, the only Christian "youth" music that openly professes Christ is Metal and Rap.

Does it really matter if it is about God or about someone else? Arguably, all songs of Emery's can be interpretted different ways. It's obviously not direct because if it was you wouldn't be having this arguement, lets just accept each others opinions, understand that each person will have different thoughts on the song, and move on. . . .
*****************************************

I personally think this song is about someone close to them, not God, altough I do agree that the lyrics were inspired by him, they're not about him. Just an opinion, please don't kill me over it. haha

wow. i can't believe this song was turned into a debate about religion. taylordcraig has a good point. seriously listen to the lyrics from the shoes of people on both sides of the arguement. the lyrics support much more the idea of the song being the loss of someone close to you(ie family member or lover) than jesus. yes the band may be religious, which gave them the ability to use religious quotes in their lyrics to make the song that much more powerful, but the lyrics just don't support the idea that the song is about the loss of Christ, Himself. i gaurentee if you think about these lyrics from an accurate perspective of someone that's personally lost someone dear to them you will be able to note the difference. while it is a great feeling to be able to familiarize, as a christian, with songs about Christ... i just can't see how this is one of those songs.

I myself am a Christian, and I think everyone posting thus far is an idiot. You christian people who are hellbent on claiming this song for Jesus, give up. He clearly gives the person who died a sense of urgency. About living with that person, and very physical traits to thier relationship. Clearly NOT JESUS. And to you people who feel the need to bash Christian beliefs, DIAF. There are a few idiots like the ones you see here, but keep your closed minds to yourselves, no need to hate on what other people think, we're talking about a song anyhow, not religion.

In my opinion, Emery (along with many other Christian Bands: like Underoath, etc.) will always have positive lyric. Meaning that in a sense it will sound positive in a male/girl relationship. But also, will be meaningful speaking of a personal relationship with God. So, either way, it's a Great Plus! for bands like Emery. Cuz, they are fulfilling their Calling as Messengers. Cuz, at the end of all, a positive note will always Brighttened the listener. Interpretations are all good here, cuz it fulfills the question in this "Comment Add". Just, please, don't fight over wut the true meaning of these songs may be. Just, rejoice that the songs have a positive ending with a motive to change of life's (personal good)character in one's life. This is an AWESOME BAND! ...BECAUSE, AT THE END OF ALL, THE DIVINE POWER WILL REACH. One song in the album reads at the end of the track of "Listening to Freddy Mercury"... "...it is not our job to make them believe..." The Bible says that it's the power of the Holy Ghost that opens up the conscious in man (humans) to bring understanding of our wrong. Emery is truly a Messenger and great Writer!

I agree with trjn71 and t_p_akbound in ways.

and people are just posting their ideas on this shin dig. Why does every non religous person on here have to shoot the Christain ideas down? I haven't seen any Christians say "DUH this obviously isnt about a girl friend" theyre keeping it open. I personally feel this song is about Christ... Reason being is he constantly keeps sayin you even when hes talkin to God. " I beg you, God, bring me peace" so there whether you think logically or religously. if you also think gramattically you can see that the "you" hes talkin to is God.
It also says in the song "While words (your life)" obviously "the words" in this fragment is talkin about the Bible. and the new testament is all about Jesus' life. And like someone said earlier Jesus is the only person who can make the Chains of Death fall.
I think all the parts where its talkin about physical interactions with the person are metaphorical and arent supposed to be taken literally. Im sure in the guy's actual life he has never held jesus's face. but ive heard people say that in theyre lifetime that they've been so spiritually strong that it felt like u could touch the face of God... i think thats something close to it. and when u feel distant from God its almost like ure lost without him and you cant "hear" him anymore. Maybe thats y the song is called As Your Voice Fades because maybe hes becoming more distant from God b/c of a certain thing in his life most likely a death. You could also say that the "Until i see u again" is a statement that could only be said to someone you knew and physically saw. But if you think of Jesus as the Alpha and the Omega if u saw Him in the end u saw Him in the beginning as well. and Alfungo i think the reason y he screams Why Did You Die is because its a rhetorical question. and the DOnt leave me please is just a state of mourning... maybe hes sorry for what hes done and is asking God for forgiveness. Just like if i did something wrong and i told my Mom please dont hate me. Its just a way of sayin im sorry because really i know my Mom will always love me no matter what. All in all i think this song was disguised. What i mean by that is that this song if you analyze ever piece it comes out to be about Jesus and sayin that i cant wait until i finally meet you. But i can also see it as other people find it asking God for him to help him and the person he lost ease their pain until their in heaven together. I think this song wasnt meant to have just ONE specific meaning but TWO. So that Christian could find it inspiring and so that Secular people could find some hope out of it too.

I could be very wrong about all of what i just said but i just wanted to lay some things out on the table so people could truly decide what they want to believe in this song. I mean my meaning are just like science: based only on theories. HAH!

P.S sorry if offended you by pressing the Shift key to much

personally i think this song isnt about a person but about Jesus and how he wants him to stay close to guide him as he goes about life.... and of course died for our sins and that one say we will meet again in heaven when we die.....
