Lyrics for 4/20/02 as interpreted by Stoney

4/20/02 Lyrics
So all you fools
Who sing just like him
Feel free to do so now
Cuz he's dead

Using, using, using
The using takes toll
Isolation
Just so happy to be one
Sad to, sad to think
Sad to think of him more

Lonesome friend, we all knew
Always hoped you'd pull through

No blame, no blame
No blame, it could be you
Using, you can't grow old using

So sing just like him, fuckers
It won't offend him
Just me
Because he's dead

This is about Layne Staley. Eddie is pissed at how people try to copy Layne's style to make a buck. R.I.P. Layne Staley.

Just listen to 'Bee Girl' off Lost Dogs if you have it. It's after the silence following Bee Girl. A hidden track.

temple of the dog was released in 1991/1992,at the same time as TEN, so Andy Wood died before that. stone gossard &jeff ament were in his previous band (Mother Love Bone).ed in a way filled his shoes.

pointless info seeing as the song is definitely about LayneStaley of Alice In Chains, but just to clarify things....

It's a challenge to gutless singers nowadays to scavenge over the remains of Layne's life, to take his voice, but at the same time, a promise that he won't be forgotten... that Eddie will remember him and do his best to preserve his memory...

i also believe it can be about disagreeing with evryone, but taking a passive view and never standing up for oneself:
It won't offend him
Just me

Such a clich'e and undignifying way for such a beautiful songwriting vocalist. He should've gotten help and input from Layne and the guys instead of pushing everyone away. That's where it's hard to bare sympathy for him. But as far as vocalists ripping off Layne's voice for profit, I know exactly where Vedder's going with this. I mean we all think this. Godsmack is a main target in particular. They stole their name from an Alice In Chains song, for Christ's sake; even an akward dumbed-down version of Layne's sun logo. These guys are very talented and it shows in their music, but they cannot even try to find their own sound. It's always Metallica-Pantera-Alice In Chains Lite; rather than finding their own sound. It can be said for the vocalists in recent bands, like Seether and Puddle Of Mudd for completely ripping off Kurt Cobain, which now is worth next to nothing. You guys know where I'm getting at.

Seether is actually pretty good, I've read alot of stuff about Shaun Morgan (the lead singer) and he's a pretty big Nirvana freak...

he says that he wants to try to keep what Kurt started going, that he wants to be in it basically for the sake of writing music,... there's no doubt in my mind that he's a hell of a lot more commercially appealing than Kurt, more Mainstream Friendly, but I think he's pretty sincere....

Sully Erna on the other hand.........

thisn is the best song off the Lost Dogs album, and i've been trying to find the lyrics...and i did!!!
the guitar in this song is a bit reflective of the anger of the song,
and the meaning is there so i'll keep my two cents.
some people hate the direction of Pearl jam musical Journey but i'm in it for the long run!
Rock on people...Eddie Rules!!!

April 20, 2002 was the date that Eddie Vedder found out about Layne Staley's death. It is 100% absolutely about Layne and his long time addiction to heroin, which eventually killed him. Layne died on April 5, 2002 after using speedball (heroin + cocaine).

there is so much power and so much pain in this song although the guitar part is not very difficult. but together with perfect lyics and beautiful Eddie's voice everything gets so touching. Perfect song.

something that's really wierd is Layne Staley died the same day that Kurt Cobain did. Kind of freaky that both of them being leaders in the grunge movment like they were both died on the exact day day

If I'm not mistaken, this song was written and recorded on the day that that Eddie and the rest of the world heard the aweful news. It's just so raw, angry and moving.

not to be a smart ass, but lemme clear it up, this song was written the day eddie heard the news, the day after layne died, and the song "Would?" was written by jerry cantrell, the guitarist for alice in chains, and it was written in memory of Andrew Wood

there, nice and clear :)
