this song is beautiful

in this the singer remembers all the wonderful time he shared in a relationship. but now it's over and he has to leave. it gets complicated towards the end though...i'm not sure....

i think this song is about a relationship is reckless and doesn't seem to have any direction. perhaps they have tried several times and each time it ended badly. he knows the relationship is a mistake but for some reason they always come back.

This is an amazingly beautiful song. I love it deeply. I've sort-of had an experience with it myself, a love that I keep going back to. Sort-of off and on relationships that are so vibrant and real when they happen, it's like you want to be together forever. But they break. For some reason you just keep coming back to each other. I also think it's about making the person finally choose. "This is tomorrow, take it or leave it." I think it's about making the person choose whether they want to be with you or not, and stop leaving you in the grey. And I think the last few lines, "I can't stay here, you can't ask me just so you would know" are about love - you can't keep somebody waiting, and you can't leave them hanging just so you would be comforted by always knowing they love you. It's supposed to be a mutual thing.

But hey..what do I know?

But honestly, thats the thing about Lyrics... they dont have ONE meaning. sure they may have meant something specific to the person who wrote the song, but if you take away something from a song that applies to your life, then by golly, thats what the song means. You see what im saying? But yes, this song is definately about Morality from what i gather. Key words and phrases lead to such an interpretation ... "clean" "overwhelmed" "holding back" "wont be forever" and so on and so forth. at least from my experiences , that is what i gather ...

As a friend of a member of Emery, here is my take on this song.

It's all about memories, memories of a relationship that had poor communication, but still holding the desire to make it work. However, also knowing that sometimes, it doesn't take words to express yourself. Sometimes you just see the look on someone's face and know what they're feeling and thinking. Yes there's more to it on a personal lever for Toby..but I'm leaving it at that.

ok, well the ending is awsome....its what i felt when i was with my x chick, i think it is about sex,

So in this first verse they both agree that if she stays "sex" will "be ours to take"

They both come back to one agreement and both made a decision to leave that she couldnt convince otherwise, and he's just letting her know:

When it says "Just take it back, they're only words" I think it might resemble a fight between the couple, and that they should take it back and forget what they said during the fight, because they were only words and nothing more.

When it says "We hold the tethers, we are here together" I think this means that they are tied together forever by tethers which can represent them trying to make the relationship work, because they are there together because of the tethers and they don't wanna let go.

When it says "We paint the night only to find it's cracked and peeling, each face revealing what we don't say", I think the night symbolizes the base of their relationship(it can represent that their relationship is 'dark' [night=dark]), and that they are trying to paint over the darkness of their relationship, and trying to forget the past by painting over it, and make it a good relationship, meanwhile underneath all the good parts of the relationship, lies the 'dark part' of the relationship. However, it is 'cracking and peeling', which I think means that the paint over the dark part of the relationship is cracking and peeling, which resembles the dark parts of the relationship coming out once again, and trying to paint over the relationship to make it seem good isn't working.

When it says "We'll map the stars, tonight they help to find a way", I think that they are trying to recover from the 'ship wreck' and that they are going to map out stars, which can resemble finding a way out of the ship wreck (the bad part of the relationship), and that tonight the stars help find a way out of the 'shipwreck'.

When it says "You want the answers and I see them on your face, you need to know this is where the promise breaks", this means that the significant other wants his answer on either if the relationship is on or off, meanwhile he see's the answer on her face, and she hopes that since he can see her answer, she hopes he will choose the same answer as her, but he doesn't go along with her answer, hence the line "you need to know this is where the promise breaks".

That is my take on this song.

This sounds like exactly how my boyfriend and I broke up. It hurt, it still really does, and the part that really hit home was "I can give you my answer" because in the end, it wasn't my decision at all.
