I like that this song can be seen from a male's or a female's point of view. Not just one or the other as many songs are.
This is definitely one of my favorites from Emery.

^That perfectly describes my current situation. Though, I wish it were only THREE sleepless nights, instead of countless.
It freaking sucks that so many people know how this feels. I think we all can say thank you, Emery.

To me this song is about a friend or a lover moving away. One person trying to keep the friendship going and desperately missing the other (hence the sleepless nights etc.)and the other not seeming to care ('but you're head it elsewhere').

ahh my ex bf sent this to me when we broke up...

I think its about a girl who doesnt know what she wants. Maybe she is interested in another man and she tells him that she wants to break up with him and he asks her why and she doesnt come up with a good reason... they go on a break so that she can figure out what she wants... meanwhile he can't sleep and he worries that she is going to find someone else to take his place. In the end she finally breaks up with him and he can't believe that she just threw away everything they had.

man..this song basically just .. leaves you wondering. It's so amazing how many people can relate to the whole song..I can.. I'm on the brink of maybe breaking up with my girlfriend. She seems to have changed. We've had arguments before about it, which reminds me of that verse about you told me things were improving... but..idk man. I hope my girl and I work out things out..I love her ...i....dang.

I think this song is about missing someone. How wondering how they could move on so quickly and leaving you in the dust. But that same time, as the last part of the songs suggest. It's not worth the try. This song hits many relationships dead on the nail. The acoustic verision is beautfil even better then the regular one... you can really here the beauty in the piano the vocals and the harmony. Amazing.

I love how the song takes on a major key here, completely contrasting with the rest of the song... It sounds and feels like that moment of hysterical desperation, when you keep telling yourself that it's all just a bad dream, that you'll wake up and everything'll be okay...

Personally, when I think of "Ponytail Parades", I imagine a parade, a display, of girls walking away from me (hence, the ponytail). That's the only guess I have as to the title of the song. XD

Amazing song. It almost brings tears to my eyes simply because it basically hits the nail on the head on my life right now.

I think the song is a story about this guy who likes this girl. But the girl isn't ready yet to be with him, and he has to decided to wait for her because his feelings for her are so strong. He doesn't care about how much sleep he loses, or the pain he has to take. And he knows that if it ends the way he wants, all of it will be worth it, but he's just waiting on the girl to come to her senses and wake up. But in the end of this song, she tells him that she didn't wait for him.

I think this song is amazing. I especially LOVE the acoustic version on the Deluxe Question CD. It left me in tears the first time I heard it. It is musical genius. I think everyone of us can relate to this at some point in our lives.

I am married now, but this song took me back to the relationship I had right before I met my future husband. I was very in love with a guy, but we were also very sexually impure with one another. It was a sin we could just not overcome. After two years, he asked if we could take a break for 6 months to re-evaluate the relationship.

I waited for 6 months, praying and hoping for the relationship to be returned to me. It did not. Beside a river in the cloak of darkness, the guy told me that he didn't want to be with me anymore. The tears that welled up inside my heart could have filled that river. I was heartbroken. He wanted to stay and talk more, but I just got up to walk myself home. I love the line about walking away despite untied laces, which to me symbolizes that he isn't "ready" to walk away, but he is walking away nonetheless.

I also love the line "I would wait forever if you would just ask." This was just how I felt. If he had told me he needed more time after the 6 months, I would have waited... Ironically, a year later he came back to tell me that he thought he made the wrong decision, but I was already dating my future husband, so I declined the invitation.

I'm not sure why I am sharing this story except to remind all of you who RELATE to this song, that you can't often see it at the time, but... When God takes something away from you, He loves you enough to give you something in the future that is EVEN BETTER. We don't always understand his plan at the time, but His plan is ALWAYS perfect.

It seems it's about a couple who broke up. The singer is still in love, while the other person has moved on quickly.

The man is in love with the woman and he says that he'd wait forever for her to come back to him. Also, maybe he thought that he could change this person's mind about the break-up and win them back, but his attempts have been fruitless and it's just changed him, making him desperate and lonely.

Pretty self-explanatory, he doesn't want to get involved with anyone else because he has his heart set on his ex. The third and fourth lines lead me to believe that their relationship was long-distance.

He's scared that his ex could find someone else to replace him, and maybe it's making him insecure and ask himself if she ever did love him at all, a typical question for someone who's been dumped.

It makes me think of how you could be so in love with someone but having it be unrequited. You're really into the convorsation and interested in them, and you're keeping the convorsation up, but the other person acts like they don't even care. And you're getting tired of it, you want the other person to care.

The ex is being careless about everything and she's not even considering his feelings. Before they broke up, perhaps she told him that their troubles were temporary and things would improve between them (which turned out wrong).

He can't seem to get over her, no matter how much he wants to.

He trusted his ex. He believed that they would be together forever, like she promised, but now that promise is broken.

She's erased him from her life and he's just left waiting for her to return.

This hit home personally. It makes me think of when you're finally starting to forget that person, maybe you didn't think about them that day.. and then you get a dream about them and it feels like your peace and calm was taken away from you. So the man stays up all night to avoid what could could happen if he dreams about her and is reminded of his pain.

This song is for his ex; yet she's not listening. She's moved on and the words are nothing to her.

She acts like breaking up was the right decsion for both of them, when it was only the right one for HER.

when i think of the ponytail parade i think of a merry go round at a parade or festival. in the beginning of the song he loves her at the end he hates her. its one cycle that just keeps going on (hence the sleepless nights?) like a merry go round.

Wow, I've been listening to this song for almost 2 years and I just discovered a few days ago the "hidden" lyric during the "insulting and bruising" part (I know this lyric is on the site, but I just actually discovered it in the song);

"I fall from your eyes,
your eyes I trusted.
I fall from your eyes,
you said forever."

Absolutely beautiful and heartbreaking, this is now my favorite Emery lyric.

that line to me is just this:
sometimes, we think "i can change them. i can make them a better person. i can make them love me or I can make them happier.
instead.
they just turn you into them. they turn your life upside down and instead of them changing into something you wanted they make you as bad as they were to begin with... and then you're both screwed.
and when you get in a relationship hoping to change them, it probably shouldn't be in the first place.

that's what it means to me at least.
