Lyrics for Walls as interpreted by all_is_vanity

Walls Lyrics
Are you listening?
we write a thousand pages
they're torn and on the floor
headlights hammer the windows
were locked behind these doors
and we are never leaving
this place is part of us
and all these scenes repeating
are cold to the touch

my hands seem to deceive me
when I'm nervous or when I'm healthy.
the scenery's all drawn.
they hang here from the walls dear,
painting pictures, bleeding colors,
blanket the windows.
sometimes it gets so hard to breathe.
your eyes can see right through me.
these fights with your arms left beside.
one thing and one more says goodnight.
you've got the map come get to me.
these knuckles break before they bleed.
tear out these veins that own my heart.
this skin that wears your lasting marks.
i've built these walls come get to me, come get to me.
is this your lesson, a slight discretion,
the lines that keep you, the lines that sweep you.
lock the doors from the inside.
your face is so contagious, it wears announcements,
it leaves me breathless, i won't forget this.
let the walls have their say.

there's no conversation
words without remorse
and this television drowns the only source
wake from these dreams of you in my arms
to the staircase where you hold my heart
this place, these walls, mean everything to me.

when i saw them at state theatre they said that it\'s about superficial-ness.. as in look are everything & you build walls around yourself because you think you\'re not good enough so on & so forth..

hence it saying \"you\'re face is so contagious,
it wears announcements-
it leaves me breathless,
i won\'t forget this,
i won\'t forget..\"
as in \'you make me feel like less of a person
you leave me breathless
i won\'t forget how crappy you make me feel..\'

Well, i think its about a couple that have just had a major fight. The male has been shouting at his partner who has just left him. Now he realises of what has just happened and is in great vein. he keeps leaving messages on her phone (You've got the map come get to me). the walls are used to portray a barrier of somekind, convincing himself that as long as the 'barriers' or 'walls' are up, she will come back to him...

well, this is just my version, dont know about the rest of you...

the screaming parts of the song must be the walls having their say. the parts that are sung is the person in the song talking about the walls he/she has made to keep everyone else out of their personal lives

I would have to agree with those that say this is a song about a significant other. I think the song is from the mind of someone who feels completely and utterly controlled by another. The controlling person has had a very negative effect on the narrator, but the narrator feels trapped with the other within walls he has built but now cannot get out of.
I completely agree with Cbrownie's interpretation of the first verse, but I have a hard time seeing the narrator of the song as self-violent. The wording seems to show the wounds as metaphorical for emotions and the lyrics have a sense of despair that also supports the idea of a trapped individual.

I think its about how we build walls to block God out of our lives, and at the same time ask for God to come and get us. He knows were we are "you have the map come get to me". Also that were fighting with God and at the same time asking him to help us.

also "these knuckles break before they bleed" is a representaion of how things inside of us get hurt and give us pain way before the physical signs show.

the first stanza of this song is the most intense screaming i have heard in a long time. its an all around good song, and this was the first song i heard from Emery. I love this song still and i have their newest album, which is worth it to pick up.

This song is about the sin that humans make naturally. and when it gets to be so much, its almost like nothing can change the way someone is acting or doing. its about someone in one of the worst situations, with all the walls of guilt built around them, and they are just asking God to free them, and get them out from behind the walls.

I really agree with Cbrownie and i also think its like a test with like the line "you've got the map come get to me." i think its like a test to the girl to see if she will be able to find him. I'm not totally sure though.

alright forget my idea. haha i re-read Cbrownie's and yea i agree with that but i still do like the idea with the line
"you've got the map come get to me."
Maybe he wants the so called "loved one" to come in and comfort him and tell him everything is alright or something along those lines.

This song is a representation of a past relationship. The beginning of the song starts out as:

"we write a thousand pages
they're torn and on the floor
headlights hammer the windows
were locked behind these doors
and we are never leaving
this place is part of us
and all these scenes repeating
are cold to the touch"

This is a recolection of someone's past with someone they loved. The pages that are torn on the floor are the bad memories that are locked in their heart. Then the song goes on about the scenery and such, which I think is talking about the efforts this person has made to try to cover up the memories of his past love, but it gets hard to breathe because the feelings are so overwhelming.

"you've got the map come get to me.
these knuckles break before they bleed.
tear out these veins that own my heart.
this skin that wears your lasting marks.
i've built these walls come get to me, come get to me."

Obviously, the person has built up walls to guard their heart, and the one person they want to tear them down has known how the entire time. Their knuckles would rather break before bleed because blood is so much more real, therefore the veins need to be torn out which encircle their heart. The last person to touch the person building the walls is the person who broke their hearts and they're bluntly saying that they want the other person to try to fix things instead of running away and feeling like theyre fighting with a mannequin.

This song is full of passion and dedication, and the lyrics are beautifully written. It can be interpereted many ways, but I honestly think it's about a broken heart. If not for a love interest, someone beloved that was definately loved and cherished.

all_is_vanity, I like your interpretation.

What I got from it was basically putting barriers around yourself to protect one from emotional harm. The line "Come get to me" was more like "Just TRY to" in my opinion. All in all a very, very well sung/performed/awesome song.
