  My Interpretation:i look at as two lovers who are deciding to mutually break up, but they stay together for a short time until they are both ready to be on there own. it is such a beautiful song and hard to think of as a break up song, but thats what i think.

  General Comment:This is my favourite Jack Johnson song. Yeah i know it's impossible to choose just one because there all so amazing. But this one hits close to home and every time i hear it, i immediately just zone out and put everything into perspective. I don't know why but theres something about this song that does it too me.

  Memory:Have been to Finland, met a dancing girl (from Lettland) at a strip club (Naima Club, Saariselkä). We talked to eachother, she listened to "Cocoon" from Jack Johnson on my mp3-player and immediately broke up into tears... Afterwards we cuddled a long time (strictly forbidden in such a bar!) but later never met again.

  General Comment:Best line of the song: "I don't wanna be your regret, I'd rather be your cocoon"
  that says it all right there - you wanna hope that in failed relationships you were that person with whom the other person needed to be with in order to grow before emerging as a beautiful butterfly with someone else ... instead of one of their mistakes. jack's a genius. loovvve it!

  My Opinion:k so i know this song is oldish now and the conversation about it has probably stopped by now, but i just discovered jack johnson and i would like to share my opinion. every time i hear this song, i think of... a mess of things, really. but i think that this song is about someone having relationship problems with a girl that he has gotten pregnant.

  im betting all of this might be over soon" this gives me the feeling that she's near her time to give birth.
  
  and the part about he'd rather lose if he's betting against her is maybe because he doesn't want to be wrong because then she'll be late, and could have complications in her birth.....
  
  and all the parts where it seems they are breaking up, with all their "use only what you really need, mend your broken heart and leave," parts are because they are having some problems, confusion maybe, because they're not entirely sure about what to do with a baby.

  id rather be your cocoon" i think this means that he doesn't want her to regret sleeping with him, he wants to protect her.
  
  the blah blah blah part is probably because you can say so much but sometimes its better not to use words.

  --->This couple has really gone through a lot together and she for somereason was sad for a long time but she has a smile now which indicates that whatever horriblness they went through together is almost over. And in the end She could lose it all or win it all, like she put everything she had on the line for something great and he is just letting her know that he hopes she wins in the end, even if he bets against her he hopes he loses, very sweet.

  ---->The horrible drama that they went through has messed with her style and again, whatever they went though together something is going to come from it...'its real real soon'....im gonna connect the song flake to this one....where he had to lie to her because he might ruin whatever it was and the whole time period of him having to lie to her is going to be over realll reall soon sexy plexi. ... he doesnt want to be her regret because he knows shes regret past guys he just wants to be her protector....awe so cute :-)

That moment, that connect in the past that initally brought us together is ALL WE NEED to Un-confuse our hearts and know that eachother is who we really want to be with......Aweeeee so true

    I think this song is about a girl who got with this guy with a broken heart from a past relationship. She really wasnt trying to use him or hurt him, she is not a bad person ("i know its not your style") but it just happened. And now his heart is broken over her and he is using her as comfort to get over her. (let me take whats left of your heart

  General Comment:Was involved with a man who was recently leaving his wife. I too am divorced and we clung to eachother. Me because I wanted to comfort him, and him because he needed comforting. This song got us through the whole thing. Eventually we "took our broken hearts" and left, but this song definitely kept us with level heads so that we wouldn't fall in love. We knew it would "be over soon".

  General Comment:This song is about two people who have been hurt in relationships in the past. he is saying that she looks like she is ready to leave or dis connect because of the fact that past relationships bring baggage and her heart may still be in the past. But maybe there is nothing to learn from relationships but that you take what you need and they are what they are. We all are dealing with somewhat of a broken heart and we want to be able to be vulnerable again and not regret the next relationship like the one before. we are all looking for our cocoon. :) Here he is just asking her to share with him what she has and he will do the same.
