love is real,
it is not just in novels or the movies
it is fact
and it is standing here
right in front of you
so if you just open your eyes
oh what a sweet discovery,
there is hope
and there is joy
and there is acceptance
so now let out all the light that collects on your plants
keep you warm
let you smile
and i will be there with this pen in my hand
to record all the while
you'll be laughing so loud
that the house would shake with sound
and everything will be as new as the day it was found
ohhhh,
love is real
it is not just in long distance commercials
or something that you thought you felt back in high school
so i will turn black and white,
become that horoscope you're reading
it predicts
that something good is on its way.
oh and i'll send you all the world
(Adapted from "Kathy with a K's Song" written by Conor Oberst and performed by Bright Eyes)

green and blue
in a box, through the mail
you can open it up hold it right in your hand
and be glad that it's there
and be glad that you're there
now you can feel all the knots in your stomach
they start to untie
and suddenly it's not so hard to say
you're alright
ohhhh,
love is real
it is not just in poetry and stories
it is truth
and it will follow you everywhere you go from now on
so if you just cast off your doubts
then your lips would answer for you
oh my darling,
when you smile,it is like a song
and i can hear it now
and i can hear it now
and i can hear it now
and i can hear it now
and i can hear it now
and i can hear it now
and i can hear it now
Yes I can...

General Comment:first of all...jason mraz's voice doesn't ever crack in any of his songs that i heard..all of them were polished. now why does he crack while singing this song? because conor oberst, the real genius, cracked in his version...now i like jason mraz so don't get me wrong, i also know artists make covers most of the time..but if you were to cover a song..make it original. copying coner's style took out the beauty of jason mraz's version

General Comment:okay... i'm definitely more of a bright eyes fan. so of course i prefer it. but jason's only interpreting this song just like the rest of us and singing it as what it means to him. he's singing it with a hopefullness... so what if he hasn't suffered as much so he's a bit more optimistic? that's fine. aside from the slightly western inflection in his voice on lines "be glad" and "it's there"... he does a very beautiful version. and he puts emotion in it... just not the emotion us bright eyes peeps are used to.

some people value different things in a song. this is just more aesthetically pleasing.

i say, go jason mraz for being a bright eyes fan. i think the rest of you should follow suit. :]

General Comment:This song whether done by Bright Eyes or Jason Mraz is truly amazing. I must say though Jason Mraz's take on it gives it much more of a hopeful undertone than Conor's. However, with Conor's you can truly feel connected and let it take hold of you. I WAS HOPING EVERYONE ON THIS POST, ON THIS WEBSITE FOR THAT MATTER COULD HELP ME OUT(caps used to get attention...I'm not "yelling" :) ANYWAY, MY FIANCVE FELL IN LOVE WITH JASON MRAZ'S COVER OF THIS SONG AND WANT TO INCLUDE IN ON OUR WEDDING CD-The problem is that I can't find it anywhere. Please if someone can get me this Jason Mraz cover of Bright Eyes, I will gladly overpay for shipping, cd purchase etc, will trade anything to get it(firstborn's not out of the question :). I've emailed Jason Mraz's booking agent and he emailed back stating he'd didn't have a clue. We greatly appreciate it!

and this isn't a place to argue about which version is better. take a look at the name of the website.

General Comment:Jason Mraz does covers of a lot of songs just like just about every band out there it's a part of the business. get over it.

General Comment:it's an interpretation of the song, in my opinion. i've heard both versions, and being biased towards jason mraz already i'd be more inclined to listen to this one. but it's kind of silly to debate on which one's "better". obviously if you're inclined towards one artist, you are more likely to like theirs.

also note that the song was on an unreleased EP album that he has performed live in it's entirity at his three "songs for friends" shows, except he left this song out. that to me signifies that it is not a song he was trying to "change" or claim as his own, but rather one he admired.

General Comment:jason mraz version was way better. all of connors fans need to go to their own page or just shut up. it is so rude to leave comments just to bash the artist. we mrazites could go to the bright eyes side and leave remarks on how he sounds lika a cat being strangled in a pot of acid. but no we have more class than that.
