and this isn't a place to argue about which version is better. take a look at the name of the website.
also note that the song was on an unreleased EP album that he has performed live in it's entirity at his three "songs for friends" shows, except he left this song out. that to me signifies that it is not a song he was trying to "change" or claim as his own, but rather one he admired.
