Wisdom infinite, held tightly in my grasp
My sword one thousand battles strong
Ageless I remain, beyond the reach of death
Indebted by my soul

I have witnessed the birthing of your faith
The tribulations, the driving of the stake
So slowly this immortal coil unwinds
Until the end, the end of fucking time

Blood of the ancient one is burning through my veins
The blood of gods man's never known
I am the one who cannot die
I am the the killer for all time
Seeds of infinite hate I've sown

I walk the earth enshrouded in its darkness
Eclipsing, I claim the flesh of man
Ageless I remain with vengeance on my breath
Revolted by the meek

I have witnessed the birthing of your faith
The tribulations, the driving of the stake
So slowly this immortal coil unwinds
This crumbing world, has become mine

See the creation of this world
See it all reduced to ash
In the blink of a sunken eye
I see one hundred winters pass
My blessing, my curse
Perpetually I'm damned to earth
Of a soul I am bereft
Forever dying to be dead

Slipping through centuries untouched by human love
Void of the simple pleasures that human life provides
Forever bound, I lie in wait, undying, and insane

See the creation of this world
See it all reduced to ash
In the blink of a sunken eye
I see one hundred winters pass
My blessing, my curse
Perpetually I'm damned to earth
Of a soul I am bereft
Forever dying to be dead!

General Comment:You all have it wrong, this song is told from the perspective of the Wandering Jew, no anti-antisemitism on my part that is what the character is biblically referenced by.

....the "driving of the steak" is when he saw
    Christ

slipping through centuries untouched by human love
void of the simple pleasures that human life provides
forever bound, i lie in wait, undying -- and insane

1 And I saw an angel coming down out of heaven, having the key to the Abyss and holding in his hand a great chain. 2 He seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil, or Satan, and bound him for a thousand years. 3 He threw him into the Abyss, and locked and sealed it over him, to keep him from deceiving the nations anymore until the thousand years were ended. After that, he must be set free for a short time. (Revelation 20:1-3)

General Comment:this song is about a man who was born at the beginning of time and cannot die, witnessed the birthing of your faith he saw the beginning of all religions "see the creation of this world see it all reduced to ash" he has seen the beginning of earth and will watch it end. its quite a simple concept. its just like the movie "man from earth"

General Comment:I think it's about becoming god-like, then wishing for death because he's been bound to earth with 'the meek' for thousands of years. It's a great song, and I love the guitar part. It's just an amazing song in general.

General Comment:meh when i first read the lyrics i thought it was about Death, as in the Grim Reaper. the "sword" could be metaphorical, showing that he has been through a lot, and he is "beyond the reach of death" because he is death. He never dies because he is Death in physical form, per se, and his job is killing people [makes sense because he is the Grim Reaper]. is it just me?

General Comment:i totally agree with this being about a very old and powerful vampire

"blood of the ancient one is burning through my veins."

could be reference to Dracula the first vampire.

another reasons why i believe this is because of the

"i have witnessed the birthing of your faith
the tribulations, the driving of the stake."

line talks about a religion most likely some form of christianity being brought in and the tribulations of hunting vampire the driving of the stake which obviously is a way to kill a vampire, but the vampire told in this song is too old and powerful thus survived and seeks revenge

"slipping through centuries untouched by human love
void of the simple pleasures that human life provides
forever bound, i lie in wait, undying -- and insane."

is also a very strong line in the song showing how it is also a curse living forever would get old and lonley and the life you live becomes hated ,but then again you dont wanna die because your soul is condemned to hell, another part that supports that is the final part

"see the creation of this world
see it all reduced to ash
in the blink of a sunken eye
i see one hundred winters pass
    my blessing, my curse
    perpetually i'm damned to earth
of a soul i am bereft
    forever dying to be dead."

lol i am very obsessed with this song, it is still my favorite

General Comment:I believe this song is about a vampiric being. the title, elder misanthropy helps to clarify a bit. "Elder" is usually used to denote great vampires. The strongest. And misanthropy is the hatered of humankind.
Although, it is quite possible that the song could just be about a forsaken warrior.

    nontheless... GREAT lyrics and instrumentals.
