This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

What does this song mean to me? Oh, I don't know if I attach any special meaning to it, I don't relate with it's message or the idea that seems to be preached here and in many other works by Saul Williams (esp. the idea of a high consciousness, etc.) but all the same, I love this mans poems.

If you defer to poems written by Rumi you will see that he practiced Sufism which is a philosophy or "a science through which one can know how to travel into the presence of the Divine, purify one’s inner self from filth, and beautify it with a variety of praiseworthy traits." The Divine meaning our Source; ONE GOD. This philosophy originated from Islam; however, nowadays many Muslims consider Sufism outside the sphere of Islam...
God lives in every one of us and to find Him, one must look inside himself; purify yourself, see the goodness in you...Nobody was born with the evil in them; hate, envy, jelousy, anything evil is not natural, they are lingering spirits...demons...think with your heart, purify it get rid of the ego..this takes lots of practice and conditioning...some books you can read to understand the meaning of this poem are "A New Earth" by Eckhart Tolle...or any book by Rumi, his poems are magnificient...also, any other scholar/philosopher that he mentions in this poem...do your research and you will understand. :)

Ok there are some things you can break down in this (decode), and there are a few different versions around (a change in the face of the unchanging), similar to perfect day which people complain that it's always done badly live and changed. Saul also worked with trent reznor. The song Hurt by Trent fits quite well with 'perfect day' and to decode hurt look for the original video (with snakes and bombs etc.. in it), look at the history of the the downward spiral album (a helter skelter is a downward spiral). Then, for instance, replace the word I with the word Ego or the name of a gilled lover. Ok, so that's a bit of language decoding explained.

The thing about the future re-presenting the present, you could poetetly express as Let tomorrow be like today, Not some time to come, but a time to be. Some say the live each day as your last and a call for hedonism, but on your dying day, your dying words would you not seek to give everything away, to make amends for your sins etc....
