There?s a dream that I see, I pray it can be
Look cross the land, shake this land
A wish or a command
I Dream that I see, don?t kill it, it?s free
You?re just a man, you get what you can

We all do what we can
So we can do just one more thing
We can all be free
Maybe not in words
Maybe not with a look
But with your mind

Listen to me, don?t walk that street
There?s always an end to it
Come and be free, you know who I am
We?re just living people

We won?t have a thing
So we?d got nothing to lose
We can all be free
Maybe not with words
Maybe not with a look
But with your mind

You?ve got to choose a wish or command
At the turn of the tide, is withering thee
Remember one thing, the dream you can see
Pray to be, shake this land

We all do what we can
So we can do just one more thing
We won?t have a thing
So we?ve got nothing to lose
We can all be free
Maybe not with words
Maybe with a look
But with your mind

But with your mind

Song Meaning:To me this song has a Buddhist vibe to it. I see it as sort of a call to step back from the materialistic rat-race of life and all the disappointment and compromise that goes with it, and instead focus on improving yourself mentally and spiritually (in order to find real peace and happiness). Sort of a "free your mind and the body will follow" message. It also seems to allude to the Buddhist belief that one can can change the world through prayer and sheer willpower:

    "
There's a dream that I see, I pray it can be
Look cross the land, shake this land
    A wish or a command
    "

    "
You've got to choose a wish or command
At the turn of the tide, is withering thee
Remember one thing, the dream you can see
Pray to be, shake this land
    "

Or it could just be a simple message about following your dreams and not compromising yourself.

General Comment:"We won't have a thing, so we've got nothing to lose. We could all be free...". Pure cynicism. You have to reject all material goods and values to be completely free. It seems to be so easy. But only a few is able to reach this kind of freedom. Sometimes I think, that world would be a better place and life would be much easier if we started thinking in this way.

    General Comment:good song.
i agree with what most people have said... it has a good meaning.

ha, something that came to mind when reading the lyrics though was transcedentalism.
    especially this stanza:

We all do what we can
So we can do just one more thing
    We can all be free
    Maybe not in words
    Maybe not with a look
    But with your mind

when you think about it really, it does relate to that belief....
    i like it :)

I agree with what alot of the other people above me said about it.

I definetely think this song is about looking into the future and realizing that even though all we are is "living people" we can still change things around us. our lives are up to us, how we live and what we chose to do with them, and nobody can take that away from us, no matter how little or how much we have. we are free.

General Comment:Beautiful song, of course. Chan Marshall has a disturbingly wonderful and deeply touching voice.

To me, this song is about being afraid of death. "We all do what we can, so we can do just one more thing" just strikes me somehow. People these days are so afraid of the world and themselves that they eat all the right things and exercise just the right amount in the right way so they can live a little longer, as though if they hit just the right combination of things they'll live forever.

To me it seems like the words are trying to tell us, we can be free from that fear, we don't have to worry, there's no point. It's all about changing your mindset.
