one big holiday Lyrics
wakin' up, feelin' good & limber
when the telephone, it ring was a bad man from california tellin' of a stone he'd bring and of better days from this town, we'd escape if we holler loud & make our way we'd all live one big holiday so we listened & up the river and recorded all the sounds was some shakin' & some record playin' all the leather kids were loud

tellin' of a stone he'd bring
and of better days
from this town, we'd escape
if we holler loud & make our way
we'd all live one big holiday"
I interpret this to mean a record producer is promising them big money, or "stone" and better days for "hollering and making our way" recording an album, and one big holiday to mean they'd be rich blah blah blah.
My 2 cents anyways but I'm probably off.

the wonderful thing is though, if you look at it, the song doesn't finish itself with the words. it ends halfway through the verse. "all the leather kids were loud...." and then the song almost restarts and then explodes. it's like "we found it....and woah!" it explodes right in front of em. in a way, it's almost the bands theme song, i think, and it could be taken as an anthem, or as a tale of the recording of the album, but either way it's an awesome story.
very epic.

My first interpretation was like Coffee's: that the song represented the band's experience of getting a record deal and how it chanegd their lives. I think the song has some sad undercurrents, though.
The word 'shakin,' especially, is an interesting choice. Sometimes people use shake to indicate dancing, but if you think about it, the word shake almost always has a violent connotation. Maybe the shaking is caused by drugs or stress, just a guess.
I think the first line "wakin' up, feelin' good & limber," follow by the next two, indicates that something is about to change. Sure, a record deal will change their lives, but feelin' good an limber is a pretty general phrase, so it might indicate that they're loosing their innocence.
All just speculation, of course, but it's fun nonetheless.

It's obviously about their record deal and some guy saying you've got a chance to never have to work (because playing music is not a job) and that's where "one big holiday" comes from. When he says "Was some shakin'," I think he's just saying shaking as in hands; meeting the guys at the record company.

wakin' up, feelin' good & limber - One day, the singer wakes up, feeling well and ready for the day.
when the telephone, it ring - all of a sudden the phone rings
was a bad man from california - guessing from the following lines, a record producer, possibly sketchy.
tellin' of a stone he'd bring - I think of the agent or whatever saying "I'll make you golden" that kind of thing, and or diamonds and other types of stones that depict value.
and of better days - this goes with the previous line, promising better days.
from this town, we'd escape - Finally leave a possibly small/mundane town.
if we holler loud & make our way - If they sing loud and proud, in their own way...
we'd all live one big holiday - Their lives would be like a vacation.
so we listened & up the river - They heeded the agent's advice and went up river (to another place)
and recorded all the sounds - Should be obvious enough.
was some shakin' & some record playin' - Like someone said earlier, most likely handshakes in deals and records being played on the radio.
all the leather kids were loud - The rockers (usually associated with leather) were loud, cheering.
The literal meaning aside, when I listen to it, I feel as if I'm at a concert that starts of with an intro, then rocks something ferocious, mellows out a bit, rocks on again, then winds down to end the show. Like another person said, like an Epic tale. That's just me though :P
