I used to know you when we were young
You were in all my dreams
We sat together in period one
Fridays at 8:15
Now I see face in the strangest places
Movies and magazines
I saw you talkin' to Christopher Walken
On my TV screen
BUt I will wait for you
As long as I need to
And if you ever get back to Hackensack
I'll be here for you
I used to work in a record store
Now I work for my dad
Scraping the paint off of hard wood floors
The hours are pretty bad
Sometimes I wonder where you are
Probably in L.A.
That seems to be where everbody else ends up these days
But I will wait for you
As long as I need to
And if you ever get back to Hackensack
I'll be here for you
And I will wait for you
As long as I need to
And if you ever get back to Hackensack
I'll be here for you
If you ever get back to Hackensack
I'll be here for you
You were in all my dreams
We sat together in period one

He grewup in hackensack it seems and this girl was probably his bestfriend and/or his first love..
Probably like anyone of us or any great story..things come to an end unfortunately.
When you were in highschool times were simpler and people seem to look back on their life and think about that person they cared about. LA and stuff I believe is his mind wondering and acts as a key methphor, that years have passed but he still thinks back to the good ol days.
people may change and time moves on, but this special place in his heart in hackensack will never change....ever..
; ) hope people liked my interpretation.
brownie points for the right answer;)
I think - I KNOW, lol - the song's about this guy who grew up in a small town (Hackensack) with a girl he always had a crush on. They went to school together, and he admired her dearly. Then they got separated - she became famous, and abandoned him in that small empty town of memories they spent their childhoods in. Basically what he's saying is that if she ever for some reason returns to her hometown, he'll be there for her - just like he always has.
i wonder which actress she is.

Could be Samantha Ivers or Grace Johnston.
