The winning days are gone
Because I know just where I'm seeing
Was giving as I know
I can't hear

'Cause underneath there's gold
I'll need to get around to find it
When I want to go
I can dream
I've been trying
All the time

I'm just seeing it right
'Cause it could be the lights that's over me
So I just want to let it be

The winning days are gone
Because I know just where I'm seeing
Was giving as I know
I can't hear

'Cause underneath there's gold
I'll need to get around to find it
When I want to go
I can dream
I've been trying
All my time

I'm just seeing it right
'Cause it could be the light that's over me
So I just want to let it be

Get up and go outside
It can help your mind too
Get up don't hide away

'Cause I know where there's gold
I didn't know when I was flying
I'm sinking like a stone
I can dream
I've been trying

General Comment:When he says "I've been trying" he means "I've been trying to get over you".

General Comment:It's about getting over someone that you love(d), but that never loved you. Read the lyrics carefully, you'll see it.

General Comment:i think the songs about experiencing clarity ('becasue i know just where im seeing', 'was given eyes i know')and realising that to suceed or evolve as a person in the future you'll have to sacrifice things....sometimes dear things, i.e family, school friends, home town. the song is quite nostalgic in this sense but is also sad, as it suggests that even through sacrificing and detaching yourself from your past, you might not realise all of your ambitions or achieve what you wanted to ('i've been trying', 'i'm sinking like a stone'); hence poignantly referring to them as 'dreams'...difficult to attain. the song ultimately about changing and choice. absoloutely amazing song. classic.

General Comment:This song is about that horrible feeling that the best days of your life are behind not in front and so the dude dreams a great deal to go back to those supposedly better times

General Comment:one of their best for sure. sung beautifully & simple yet poetic words. i love the way he switches where you would expect to hear certain words: 'Because I know just WHERE I'm SEEING
    Was giving EYES I know
I can HEAR'. you would expect to hear WHAT i'm seeing or where i'm GOING........and writing those words like that gives a sense of everything being connected in the way that we feel & experience things in life. the vines' songs are lyrically simple but the music they compose is full & rich & meant to be played LOUD! like this song. this song sounds even better when the volume is turned way up on the stereo.

General Comment:Oh, how I love this song. It's about being homesick of the times who are over now and you really can hear it in the music, the homesickness is really in the song!

General Comment:i love this song...its so light and sunny, with a deep core...i love listening to this song while cruising around on sunny days...the funny thing about the whole "beginning of side two" thing is that i actually have the vinyl of this album, and this song is the end of side 1, not the beginning of side two...oops hehe

General Comment:I love this song... lol im using it in school for 'favorite poems' thing, came here cos I need the 'meaning'.... thats so funny craig wrote it as a poem! I love in the song how it like false stops "I've been trying all my time..............im just seeing it rise...." I love it. but I think the last bit of the lyrics says "I've seen you down when I was flying." thats what I heard and saw on other lyrics sites anyways.. oh and I dislike the beach boys but I love the vines.. and the beatles hahah...... its very weird but I hate the beach boys....

    Beatles.

Nah, it's unmistakably Beach Boys inspired. The first thing I thought of when I heard this song was 'Pet Sounds.' As a matter of fact, I usually play 'You still believe in me' to chase this song - the two go together disturbingly well.

That ****in' line. That last 'I've been trying' the song closes with - gets me. Every ****ing time.

    Great song.
