Well, everyone visiting this web page should care, except for the likes of you, obviously. The point of this entire website is to find meaning behind songs, not to let everyone know how much you love the song.

I like cheryluk's observation that lies, like cheating, are addictive and sweet. I personally thought that this song is named chocolate b/c it is an apology and a plea to a girl. Apologies by cheating men are often accompanied by a gift, such as flowers...or chocolates.

Actually, Lightbody wrote this song after he cheated on his girlfriend, so its really about that and the mistakes he's made. He is reflecting upon the experience and he regrets the decision he made. In a way, he's apologizing to her, while at the same time accepting full responsibility for his actions. He wants to start new, but that will always hang over his head. That's what the song is about.

The first verse is the best in the whole song.

i really like this song, the actual music and the lyrics. I think it is about growing up and becoming more mature (1st verse) but he is doing it for someone he loves and made mistakes with previously. "...as I lie to you Just because i'm sorry doesn't mean I didn't enjoy it at the time" i love the next part "You're the only thing that I love Scares me more every day" putting all your hopes and trust in one person may be quite scary. he is obviously trying to regain her trust and start their relationship over again as he says that he promises he willl do anything this time.

Chocolate an amazing song...his whole life is like chocolate. His lies are addictive and makes everything seem sweet, when he gets caught out things get sticky and when things heat up and he is afraid of losing his gf and wants to regain her trust his vizard of lies melts. This is the straw, final straw in the Roof of my mouth as I lie to you Just because i'm sorry doesn't mean I didn't enjoy it at the time.

You could see this as a response to the question: "Did you enjoy it?" which wouldn't have been asked about a drugs issue.

I think this song is about taking drugs but he called it Chocolate(something that we joke about as addictive,eg a chocoholic) because he couldn't call it "heroin". He says he's sorry but he still enjoyed it at the time. That would be the guilt he is feeling as we attach a stigma to drugs and we are taught they are wrong. Drugs are the only things he loves as this is what happens when you become an addict. he says "what have I done" meaning he regrets getting addicted but "it's too late" and he is a slave to drugs "I promise I'll do anything you ask" and his life revolves around them like what happens to most drug addicts ("you're the only thing that I love" but it still "scares" him) He feels "alive" as this is the first time he has taken them. He "lies to you" as addicts often cover up what they are doing. "he saw it coming" as he is trying to tell himself he can control it. He is on "his knees" as this is the image we always have of someone injecting. Not that I think he's a heroin addict though. favourite song of last few years.

The song's meaning is obvious me. Its most likely about a guy who wrote this to his ex-girlfriend after she left him because he used to lie to her. His lies could have been about anything, even an affair. And now he says he was always really sorry for lieing to her, but now he realizes what he's done. She's gone, and he's gone through hard times but he swears its the "final straw" (meaning the last time). And he also says he doesn't know the meaning of truth yet but he promises he'll do anything for her. Its a feeling everyone can relate to. You didn't know what you had cause you took it for granted. Its a sad part of humanity.

To me, this song represents sort of an awakening. Perhaps he took a relationship for granted and has come to realize how good he really has it...or had it. It's changed his whole outlook on life, and thus he begins his life again at 25. The final straw, I think, is him expressing anger toward himself for his actions. The comment about being sorry and enjoying whatever he did just seems like raw honesty to me. Perhaps he just wants to be completely open with whoever he is speaking to. The next part is maybe the most clear, to me anyway. He loves the person he is speaking to, and that realization frightens him. We probably all know what that is like. Being on his knees most likely symbolizes begging for forgiveness. I think he didn't see it coming...because he says "or at least I'll claim I did." In truth, he is speechless and maybe shocked toward how strongly he feels. Next he realizes it is too late to turn back from whatever wrong he committed. He then says that he hasn't yet amounted to anything in life. His promise I think represents more begging. I love this song, and without it, I wouldn't have ever gotten into this band.

I think it makes more sense if he uses the word chocolate as a metaphor for drugs so as not to sound too crude. The "simple mistake" is when he first got addicted (which is "the hardest time"). You know what he probably didn't have a clear idea of what it's about. It might have been about drugs or an affair to him. At the end of the day he probably didn't think we would sit and analyse it. I know some lines don't make much sense in my songs, sometimes they just rhyme!
