Lyrics for Chocolate as interpreted by Crespo

Chocolate Lyrics
This could be the very minute
I'm aware i'm alive
All these places feel like home
With a name i'd never chosen
I can make my first steps
As a child of 25

This is the straw, final straw in the
Roof of my mouth as I lie to you
Just because i'm sorry doesn't mean
I didn't enjoy it at the time.

You're the only thing that I love
Scares me more every day
On my knees I think clearer
Goodness knows I saw it coming
Or at least I'll claim I did
But in truth I'm lost for words

What have I done? It's too late for that
What have I become? Truth is nothing yet
A simple mistake starts the hardest time
I promise I'll do anything you ask, this time.

One of the best songs on their lastest album.

"This could be the very minute
I'm aware i'm alive
All these places feel like home
With a name i'd never chosen
I can make my first steps
As a child of 25"

The first verse is the best in the whole song.

i really like this song, the actual music and the lyrics. I think it is about growing up and becoming more mature (1st verse) but he is doing it for someone he loves and made mistakes with previously.
"...as I lie to you
Just because i'm sorry doesn't mean
I didn't enjoy it at the time"
i love the next part
"You're the only thing that I love
Scares me more every day"
putting all your hopes and trust in one person may be quite scary.
he is obviously trying to regain her trust and start their relationship over again as he says that he promises he willl do anything this time.

I think it's called chocolate because of the first chorus "This is the straw, final straw in the
Roof of my mouth as I lie to you
Just because i'm sorry doesn't mean
I didn't enjoy it at the time. ", the whole lie is like chocolate.

Chocolate an amazing song...his whole life is like chocolate. His lies are addictive and makes everything seem sweet, when he gets caught out things get sticky and when things heat up and he is afraid of losing his gf and wants to regain her trust his vizard of lies melts.
This is the straw, final straw in the
Roof of my mouth as I lie to you
Just because i'm sorry doesn't mean
I didn't enjoy it at the time.

You're the only thing that I love
Scares me more every day
On my knees I think clearer
Goodness knows I saw it coming
Or at least I'll claim I did
But in truth I'm lost for words

Reminds me of some1 being caught having an affair and he is grovelling for forgiveness

Ive always thought it was called chocolate because of the drum beat. Maybe its just me, but i hear the drums sort of 'saying' chocolate, if that makes sense...i didnt think to look that closely at the lyrics, though what everyone has said sounds about right too. :)

I think this is a song about mistakes made and about starting over.
maybe as an apology for a specific mistake...

Who cares why it's called chocolate.. its a fucking great song! I luv the voice of the lead singer!
I think it means that we make mistakes in life
but who cares because once we learn from those mistakes we become a better person, and we start living life better because u know wot to do! confused? good!

the video for this song is all about the countdown to the end of the world and how people are choosing to spend their last couple of minutes, not sure if it has any connection to the song, though.

" Who cares why it's called chocolate.. its a fucking great song!"-Splaire89

Well, everyone visiting this web page should care, except for the likes of you, obviously. The point of this entire website is to find meaning behind songs, not to let everyone know how much you love the song.

I like cheryluk's observation that lies, like cheating, are addictive and sweet. I personally thought that this song is named chocolate b/c it is an apology and a plea to a girl. Apologies by cheating men are often accompanied by a gift, such as flowers...or chocolates.

hmm, i dont know why it is called chocolate. my first guess, after listening to the song a few times, was that it was because what he was doing felt so sweet and addictive, even though that he knew it was wrong to be doing what he was (like it is wrong to eat too much chocolate even though it is lovely, perhaps???). but after listening to other ideas you lot all seem to be a lot better at the whole understanding songs thing than me. its just an amazing song!!!!

I think this song is about taking drugs but he called it Chocolate(something that we joke about as addictive,eg a chocoholic) because he couldn't call it "heroin". He says he's sorry but he still enjoyed it at the time. That would be the guilt he is feeling as we attach a stigma to drugs and we are taught they are wrong. Drugs are the only things he loves as this is what happens when you become an addict. he says "what have I done" meaning he regrets getting addicted but "it's too late" and he is a slave to drugs "I promise I'll do anything you ask" and his life revolves around them like what happens to most drug addicts ("you're the only thing that I love" but it still "scares" him) He feels "alive" as this is the first time he has taken them. He "lies to you" as addicts often cover up what they are doing. "he saw it coming" as he is trying to tell himself he can control it. He is on "his knees" as this is the image we always have of someone injecting. Not that I think he's a heroin addict though. favourite song of last few years.

this is an amazing song.
After reading your comments, and hearing all the different opinions, id like to share why the singer in snow patrol, Gary Lightbody, named it chocolate.

"Chocolate is the kind of thing you look at and think,'I really shouldn't', but you can resist."

So although we may all have different opinions, the guy who actually wrote and sings it probably knows best.....

I think its about a guy who's had an affair and is apologising for it. But I admit it could equally well be about taking drugs and apologising for that. Either way I think its depressing not lifting! (Read ragagamma's comment).

Thinking a bit more it makes more sense if it was an affair.

Just because i'm sorry doesn't mean
I didn't enjoy it at the time.

You could see this as a response to the question: "Did you enjoy it?" which wouldn't have been asked about a drugs issue.
