Let's go back
Back to the beginning
Back to when the earth, the sun, the stars all aligned

'Cause perfect didn't feel so perfect
Trying to fit a square into a circle
Was no lie
I defy

[Chorus]
Let the rain fall down
And wake my dreams
Let it wash away
My sanity
'Cause I wanna feel the thunder
I wanna scream
Let the rain fall down
I'm comimg clean, I'm coming clean

I'm shedding
Shedding every color
Trying to find a pigment of truth
Beneath my skin

'Cause different
Doesn't feel so different
And going out is better
Then always staying in
Feel the wind

[Chorus]

I'm coming clean
Let the rain fall
Let the rain fall
I'm coming clean

[Chorus]

Let's go back
Back to the beginning

General Comment:I wouldn't even give this song a second glance if it wasn't what I listened to for a large amount of time when I was 12. But my interpretation of the song hasn't changed since then, and it's always been about becoming a new person true to yourself and free of pretensions.

"Coming clean", as well as standing in the rain and letting it wash over you, always symbolised washing the dirt of yourself away. Washing away all the bad things about you, becoming a better, new person and "trying to find a pigment of truth beneath my skin" meant looking inside to see who you really were, and following that. Yes, it's cliched "be yourself" pop sloganism, but for a 12 year old it's meaningful, when all the other things on TV didn't even get to THAT level of deepness.

"Trying to fit a square into a circle" made me think of society's expectations, especially in primary/high school where you're either in or weird or nobody, so you end up forcing yourself to be somebody else. This song is all about rebelling against people's expectations and staying yourself. Not boys or anything like that. Even her more bf-focussed songs retain this sort of pure, asexual message. That's why I don't mind the fact that I listened to her when I was young.

General Comment:Reading earlier comments about the video. Its never implied that the guy shes waiting for in the video is a boy she likes. Its left ambiguously. He could be a friend or a brother. So really depends how the viewer sees it if its romantic or not. I liked the video because you were always so sure she was waiting for her boyfriend but they hug rather than kiss in the end.

I always thought the song was reflecting on a relationship and realizing she should of come clean about why the relationship ended.

General Comment:In the video, Duff does wait for a guy...but to me, this song means so much more than wanting a guy's attention. To me, this song is about shedding all past baggage and drama no matter what it has to do with; family, friends, love, self-hatred. I could relate to this song when I decided to seperate myself from a group of people who I hung around. They would only bring drama and stress into my life. I seperated myself from them. Hence "I'm coming clean, I'm coming clean" of their ways of life which hindered my life.

General Comment:Whenever I hear this song it makes me think of Laguna Beach. I like the song, but I think she's a better actor then singer. She's okay at singing.

    Oh shut up, negative commenters.

Hilary Duff is a great role model for young girls, Even though I am not fond of her music, It's pleasing that she is not like most other famous teenage girls her age, doing drugs, making a scene and such.

But you can't live to please everybody can you? XD

I don't know if anyone noticed this, but this song wasn't sung by a pre-teen pop star, a lot of people would actually like it.

To me, it is about someone who is addicted to something and can't stand something about themselves ("trying to find a pigment of truth beneath my skin" for instance). It's not really a 'relationship' song as it is a co-dependent almost hurtful relationship that the singer can't seem to get out of.

General Comment:Hmm i like the lyrics, but i don't really like Hilaries voice it's too clean and modified.
She is pretty but she doesn't have raw talent i don't think.
Like i said i like the song but she turned it into a song about a boy with the video which i thought was pretty annoying. It would have been better if she didn't make it about a boy.
