Lyrics for A Devil In God's Country as interpreted by reck_666

A Devil In God's Country Lyrics
Down south soldier
Third world soldier
My vengeance will be swift and terrible
Many will die.
I am the distance between two points
Forgotten. A Void.
I dig holes brother.
Well, I've got a bone to pick
And a nerve to pluck
A skin to get under
And a home to wreck.
I've got ends to meet
So I've got a job to do.
Acrimonious and sanctified
Call me what you will.
Stick to your guns
The difference is mine are loaded.
Taste the sting of your arrogance
Stuck in this screeching bitch called life
Drop the coins and send you to Charon.
I will have my vengeance
In this life or the next.
Well, I've got a sucker to punch
And a back to stab
A head to kick in
And a throat to toslit.
I've got a job to do
Harsh and unrepentant.
Step back before you're the next to get served
With some Southern hospitality.

I dont know, but I cant stand all that southern pride bullshit. You're from the south get over it. But I think you're on a lead with your meaning. Sounds right to me.

I believe this song is a description of death. If you look he mentions 2 soldiers, not just 1. Ones obviously from the south, the other is from a third world country. This song is about what deaths job is in a war, most likely that occuring in Iraq. And yes Virginia is considered the south.

Hmm, actually now looking at it again and comparing the lyrics to the title it may be talking about a terrorist. Tymothy Mcvay could be the down south soldier he's talking about. Third world is obvious (Osama perhaps?) The rest is about death.

I agree with slayerofpop, I agree, the song is about Timothy McVay (although most of it, could apply to any terrorist), but I disagree with the Osama Bin Laden link.

I don't think Randy is talking about two seperate people, rather, he is describing the way that the same guy views himself. He is from Oklahoma (down south soldier), but he also believes that, due to the way the government has raped the land he loves, it has become a third world, of sorts and he views himself as a latter-day savior, for the people that the government has betrayed.

I feel the part about "Stick to your guns, The difference is mine are loaded", is about how the government keeps making excuses and empty promises, to justify the way that it treats the people, all the time knowing that there is no truth to any of it, while he has total conviction in what he is doing and that, this is what makes him (and indeed, all terrorists) so dangerous, they feel that the path they have chosen, was no choice at all, rather it was forced upon them, by a ruling body that was unwilling to bend in it's totalitarian rule over the people and that has stripped them of all but their skin, leaving them with no other option but to strike back.

"When you' got nothing, you' got nothing to lose".

Sweet Christ, are these the kind of people who listen to America's greatest metal band? Pitiful.

It's about Bush. All of it applies to Bush. BUSH, you fucking simpletons, you know, invader of Iraqi HOMES, SLITter of Iraqi THROATS, the man Randy Blythe probably hates more than Hilter?

I say again: Pitiful.

Bush is trying to get rid of these Devil's in God's Country.

swift and terrible vengeance=jihad suicide attacks

bone to pick, nerve to pluck, skin to get under=the terrorist point of view, to create fear to push their radical agenda

mine are loaded=while our soldiers fear death, they embrace it, and welcome it

CHARON=ARIEL CHARON aka ISRAEL PM

Gettin served by some Southern hospitality aka Texan aka Bush, weeding out the extremists.

Sekiria, I think I know what's happening. Look up a song/download a song called "In Defense of our Good Name" and see if it matches up. I encountered the same problem, but it turns out "In Defense of our Good Name" and "A Devil In God's Country" were mixed up.

Hope this helps.

I think this song is about war in general. But of course Randy Blythe (and just about everyone else in the world) HATES George W. Bush. I know he's not the best president we've ever had (nor the smartest :P) but geez, it seems like everyone's against that dude.
Oh well whatever, Lamb of God is awesome. One of the best bands out there today.

yes . shit. virginia is part of the classical south. the states northern border runs along the mason-dixon. it was the home of the capitol of the confederacy, and home to almost every battle fought in the civil war. as much as people in georgia hate to admit it . virginia lays sole claim to much of the history of the south

AHHHHH its the fucking civil war people the fucking civil war! how neather side would give up despite the massive lose of life and how at the end of the war the north under comand of grant just went total apeshit on the south and destroyed everything and everyone they could find merciliessly the last year or so of the war was just all out bloodthirsty shit also despite the last line it seems to say its from the piont of view of a northern soldier but the last line could mean its form a southern soldier in the begining of the war when they were winning

I don't know if im the first to make this judgment but, doesn't the title kind of give the meaning away? Think about it ... the TITLE of the song is looking at it from the middle easts point of view. Seeing as the middle east is god's (in their case Allah) country, and they see us (the coalition) as an invading, evil force. Hence - A devil in gods country ... i don't know, hell i'm probably wrong ... but thats just the way I view it. But yeah, the lyrics tend to lean more towards the 'soldier's' point of view ... Great song!

i reckon decc's on the right track. check this out

Down south soldier, third world soldier
- a soldier from down south, sent to a third world country to fight

my vengeance will be swift and terrible, many will die
- he's got a vendetta for some reason, like maybe one of his friends got killed or somehting

then for a while he's just talking about how he wants to take vengeance.

drop the coins and send you to charon
- charon was the ferryman who ferried people accross the river styx in greek mythology, and on the other side of the river was tartarus, the greek hell. people used to be buried with coins to pay for the ferryman, so he's talking about killing someone here, sending them to hell in the process.

the rest of the song's just more about killing. i think its called a devil in gods country for one of 2 reasons: either thats how the enemy views this soldier, or thats how he views himself, cause after all he is a killer, and he is in the traditional "holy land"

PS LoG rock so damn hard! and not just randy, the whole crew. the guitars rule! the drums are absolutely crazy!!! Rock on!!!! \m/ \m/

PPS i agree with everyone who insulted threechairsblack. you are an arrogant dick, just the kind of elitist, self righteous fuckwit that LoG profess to hating, and with good reason. suck my balls.

third world soldier clearly refers to how the south was turned into (and in some parts still is) a third world after the civil war

I think it's from the point of view of a Civil War soldier fighting for the Confederates, late in the war.

Down South soldier / Third world soldier -- the South was laid to waste to a third-world level.

My vengeance will be swift and terrible / (later) I will have my vengeance in this life or the next -- he's angered at his homeland being trashed and swears revenge at all costs, even after he knows the South has been hopelessly ravaged.

I am the distance between two points / Forgotten, a void -- he's passionate about defending his homeland, but to a large degree he's been forced into this role of a killer. The distance between two points is the divide between North and South--the divide that caused the Civil War in the first place.

I've got a job to do / Harsh and unrepentant / Acrimonious and sanctified / Call me what you will -- Again, he's been forced into the role of a killer with no room for mercy, a role sanctified by the military and his determination to defend his home, despite being called a traitor and a rebel.

I dig holes brother -- a reference to how a defending army (usually the South) would "dig in" and more often than not slaughter the attacking army, who would march straight into the gunfire.

Stick to your guns / The difference is mine are loaded -- possibly a reference to the South constantly having to scrounge for ammunition, while the North was less thrifty, since it had many factories to supply it. More likely, though, Randy just thought it up and sang it because it's a really cool line. This song is kinda deep, but you can't read TOO deeply into things all the time. :)

Most of the rest concerns killing; Drop the coins and send you down to Charon is probably a reference to a specific kill the soldier happens to remember vividly.

Well I didn't read what the hell you guys said but jsut the title suggest something. A Devil in God's Country just makes it sound like something that shouldn't be their.
