Don't kid yourself
And don't fool yourself
This love's too good last
And I'm too old to dream, yeah

Don't grow up too fast
And don't embrace the past
This life's too good to last
And I'm too young to care

Don't kid yourself
And don't fool yourself
This life could be the last
And we're too young to see

My Interpretation:Here's my translation of the song. I'm not saying it's definite, but it's at least what this song means to me:

    Don’t fool around
    And don’t pretend
    This love can’t last forever
And I'm too old and grown up to believe otherwise

But don’t grow up all at once
And don’t let the past define you
    This life can’t last forever
But I'm too young to care about it right now

    So don’t fool around
    And don’t pretend
This life could be the very last
And we’re all too young to understand

General Comment:the third verse is the answer to the first and second verses. right?

i mean, 'don't kid yourself, don't fool yourself' is sang kind of cynically in the 1st and 2nd verses. and in the third verse it's passionate and totally free of irony. like, reflecting on life/love. just because love hurts, doesn't mean you shouldn't. just because life ends, doesn't mean you shouldn't live it. and this could be our last moments on earth. so why (the fuck) not?

don't give up on life. don't dwell on hurt. we're all humans, and all we have is each other.

My Interpretation:I really believe that this song is about death. Kinda emo-ish but yeah? it is. And religion. Muse's favorite topic. Personally, I believe, as Muse seems to do as well, that religion does exist, BUT, unfortunately, God, as a being, does not exist, at all. So, everything that religions preach is false and misleading. As a christian I was made to believe that my-so-called-soul will rise to the heavens once I die. As a critical thinker and a curious child, I was skeptic of the idea, so I made the bravest step in my life to follow the truth, wherever it would take me, and question what my preachers told me. I realized any religion has WAY TOO many flaws and contradictions that it is impossible to believe in a so called omnipotent God. The pope is wrong, everyone is wrong. They are living their lives wrong, they are not enjoying their lives by their own choice, they dont know any other way to live b/c the only reason they believe in their god is b/c they were born in a certain place in the world. PEOPLE DO NOT HAVE AUTONOMY WHEN IT COMES TO PRACTICING A RELIGION. "DONT KID YOURSELF, DONT FOOL YOURSELF", is a plead asking people to snap out of their trance, they are on automatic. Youre born, you grow, your parents are christian, so YOU WILL BE christian, or MUSLIM, or BUDDHIST, or JEWISH, or so many of the denominations that exist. I was sad at first but the truth is the truth. Most people will die believing there is another life afterwards...it's CONSOLING, I understand, but it's false. BUT anyways, when we die, it is lights out...forever. And this time that we have now, where we are aware of ourselves, and can enjoy anything from sensing the taste of chocolate, defying the mind vs body problem, to sensing something as complex as limitless love for another human being, is limited. Our time is limited. "THIS LIFE COULD BE THE LAST, AND WE'RE TOO YOUNG TO SEE" is something I have always believed and this song/band expresses it perfectly. We come and we go, like the dust in the wind, and the sooner you learn there is no God, the sooner you will learn to appreciate the beauty and immense luck that you have to be alive.

General Comment:For me this song is a song purely of how life can change e.g. one moment you are living to the full with everyone you love and care about you & then next, it can all be taken away from you & even the most perfect life cannot last forever due to a life cycle (birth, whatever life gives you & then passing away) Either way this song sure does make you think about life doesnt it. . .

My Interpretation: Very beautiful song. I think it's about a guy and a girl that are the same age and young. But the guy is moveing on with his life and the girl wants to still be with him.

General Comment:This song is from the perspective of a man who is on his deathbed, reflecting on his life and how it's been. He's not reflecting on it from a negative standpoint, however, just merely in remembrance of it.

He's saying "don't grow up to fast. don't embrace the past" which means that you should always focus on the present, and don't dwell on your mistakes and don't look to the future all the time. Deal in the present.

The "don't kid yourself" just means not to trick yourself into believing things that aren't true in your life, and to just worry about the present and enjoy every minute of it.

Beautiful song. Amazing strings, great lyrics, great melody. Perfect.

General Comment:Don't kid yourself, and don't fool yourself, this love's good to last, and I'm too old to dream-- maybe it's a relationship that's bound to end soon, and he's looking at it like "dude, who am I kidding, this is going nowhere... I'm getting too old to believe it can last forever like I used to when I was younger...

Don't grow up too fast and don't embrace the past, this life's too good to last, and I'm too young to care--- maybe that means he's telling younger people to grow up too fast because maybe he thought things were gunna get better (or being wiser would make it better) when he grew up, but it didn't, it only made him just lose his will to dream. Don't embrace the past, this life's too good to last-- For the people that are older now -don't cling on the past, because it'll drive you crazy because it's not gunna go back to the way it was before, you can dream all you want but it's not going to. I'm too young to care-- maybe at the moment he believes that he's too young to settle down with someone.

Don't fool yourself, don't kid yourself, this life could be the last, and we're too young to see-- I think he's just summing up the entire meaning of the song... maybe he just wants you to think about your own life and how you can relate to it yourself.

btw all those who think he could relate or be used in a movie- one definition of blackout is "the extinguishing of all stage lights, as in closing a vaudeville skit or separating the scenes of a play to influence the audience think of it's ultimate meaning." So I agree with that too.
