you're so sensitive,
you can feel a single hair curl while you're sleepin',
and each fraction of a millimeter fingernail's growth.
you show half a heart when you play euchre
and i face the punching bag, and do what i'm told,
but you stoop so low,
to write a word in white pastel on a skull shaped gauge,
you say: "i'm not myself without my challenger commemorative button
on the chest of my brown down vest."
you say: "coffee's turned my dark days into woody allen *long sigh* anxiety."
you say: "hide in denver, and i remember montreal. i swear i'll write soon."

don't encourage the wind;
the candles will retire.

the cumulative weight
of all my chain letter curses.
something about this
is clowns with knives.
an ambulance siren
searching for an injured person.
that ain't no god
it's just a hedge on fire.

that ain't no god
it's just a burning bush.

you're so sensitive,
you can feel a single hair curl while you're sleepin',
and each fraction of a millimeter fingernail's growth.

don't encourage the wind;
the candles will retire.

the cumulative weight
of all my chain letter curses.
something about this
is clowns with knives.
an ambulance siren
searching for an injured person.
that ain't no god
it's just a hedge on fire.

that ain't no god that ain't no god that ain't no god...

Song Meaning:It is written from the perspective of a devout person, disappointed in a young person who is thinking freely, the lines after "you say..." cut in as if the young person is sick of this blind response they have heard a million times, the devout person has nothing new to say, hence the second verse just being the first line repeated, then a long pause, the first part of the chorus is the devout and the second part is the free-thinker, if you really look into the other lyrics it all makes sense, Yoni would never write in opposition to individuality and free thinking, as jarvis suggested, it is just in that point of view to make the song work

General Comment:I think the name comes from one of Yoni's friends (Acquaintance?)Brendon 'Alias' Whitney, who is another artist on anticon. Maybe this refers to Brendon's outlook on life when he was younger?

General Comment:i think instead of "you say: 'hide in denver..." it's "sit tight in denver" but really i'm not sure. i guess just don't know what is meant by hiding in denver. i think it makes a bit more sense.

General Comment:> and i face the punching bag, and do what i'm told

lifted directly from another ohioan, guided by voices' 'do the earth'.

General Comment:Does anyone else think the "candles" (that will retire) might have lit that burning bush? Maybe a commentary on the belief in god. Disbelief will happen naturally, don't encourage it?

General Comment:It's so strange to me to hear a song like this one from Why?. I'm so used to his work with Dose in cLOUDDEAD. I just bought this album and I love it man. Every song, every line. Cheers Why?, keep writing.
