Lyrics for Atheist Peace as interpreted by Aerion

Atheist Peace Lyrics
Maybe it’s too late for an intellectual debate,
but a residue of confusion remains.

Changing with the times,
and amphetamine tortured minds
are average the citizen’s sources of pain.

Tell me what we’re fighting for—
I don’t remember anymore,
only temporary reprieve

And the world might cease
if we fail to tame the beast
from the faith that you release
comes an atheist peace.

Atheist peace.

Political forces ran
political winds of discontent,
and the modern age emerged triumphantly.
But now that safety’s gone,
And it’s time to de-evolve
and relive the dark chapters of history

Tell me what we’re fighting for—
No progress ever came from war,
only a false sense of increase

and the world won’t wait
for the truth upon a plate
but we’re ready now to feast on an atheist peace.

Atheist peace

Agnosticism isn't logical, it's a fence sittting position. Marty1982 is completely wrong. For one, only idiot is good out of the fear of punishment and if nobody believed in god then the leaders wouldn't be hearing the crazy ass voice of their imaginary friend which told them to go forth and take the blade to all the infidels. Interesting how no wars have been started out of atheism, Stalin and Hitler don't count, their movements were out of political ideologies, and Hitler was a catholic. Other than the fucking long rant, it's an excellent song. Blackbird 1565 hit the nail on the head.

This song is about a peace between atheists and theists, and whether we are ready for it. I didn't quite understand it, although it is a great song, at first. My boyfriend, who has been listening to Bad Religion since the 80's, and who is quite the intellect, told me the meaning.

"amphetamine" should be "developmentally" as in the line "Changing with the times,
and amphetamine tortured minds"

this correction came from their lyrics on the album that i just got... which is freaking amazing!

For the people who are describing themselves as agnostic, agnosticism is completely different from theism and atheism. Agnosticism deals with what you know, while theism and atheism deals in what you believe. Theism describes belief in a god, and atheism decscribed no belief in a god, not belief in no god. What is described as 'strong atheism' should really be call non-theism.

People who say that the threat of hell and promise of heaven keep people in line need to review the christian religion. The christian bible says that faith gets you into heaven, not deeds. The oldest argument illustrating this is asserting that Hitler, a catholic, could get into heaven, as long as he believes in Jesus, while Gandhi would go to hell for his lack of that belief. There is no justice in this kind of judgement, and there's nothing to stop any christian from going genocidal.

And for those who say that religion is the only reason for war, you are right. It is merely a tool that drives differing opinions against each other. But, would you let 3rd graders take guns to school?

Anyway, the song is awesome. I just heard it 2 hours ago, and now I love it.

"What is described as 'strong atheism' should really be call non-theism."

Actually, that's not entirely true. Atheism is a subset of non-theism. But so are agnosticism and deism. Non-theism simply means you don't follow any particular religion. It doesn't necessarily mean you don't believe in God.

I do, however, agree that there's a disappointing amount of ignorance on Songmeanings.net over how the Christian religion actually works. I'm sorry, but just as there are plenty of hypocritical pastors/priests out there, there are also many hypocritical/fraudulant atheists out there too. Just as a Christian can't blindly follow what a pastor preaches, an atheist shouldn't blindly follow what people like Richard Dawkins say either.

In response to Agnostic Soldier, I think you're grossly oversimplifying things. Wars are started generally for two things: Money and Power. Because religion is such a powerful tool, it usually somehow makes its way into war since, when one group of people wants power over another group, they also want to make sure that group follows their particular religion. Cutting religion out altogether does not make people any less starved for wealth and power. It just denies them a potential cover-up for their motivations.

The word atheist shouldn't even exist. There are no words for people who don't believe in other imaginary things. Ex. aunicornist, aleprechaunist, afairiest Sadly when there's millions of brainwashed people we need a word for the non-brainwashed.

Although most of Bad Religion's songs are good, and their critical analysis of Christianity is good, this song is ignorant. You can't say that without religion there is going to be peace. If you analyse history, you will realise that extremists are those who are the biggest hypocrites, and are greedy (which religions are against), therefore start the war. Also, people use the name of religion to start a war as the world used to be very religious and therefore by basing it on religion they will quickly get people to help them support.
Also - look at China, Communist and atheist - and they control the country which once hosted thousands of Buddhists (Tibet) - the most peaceful religion in the world. Anyway, just cause many people have based wars on religion in the past, it doesn't mean all religions are wrong.
