I don't want to waste your time,
I don't want to waste your time.
I just want to say -
I've got to say,
We worked hard, darling
We don't have no control
We're under control

I don't want to do it your way,
I don't want to do it your way.
I don't want to give it to you, your way.
I don't want to know...

I don't want to change your mind,
I don't want to change the world.
I just want to watch it go by.
I just want to watch you go by.
We were young, darling
We don't have no control
We're out of control

I don't want to do it your way,
I don't want to do it your way.
I don't want to give it to you, your way.
I don't want to know...

I don't want to change your mind,
I don't want to waste your time.
I just want to know you're alright.
I've got to know you're alright;
You are young, darling
For now, but not for long
Under control.

My Interpretation:Probably about how we try to control life, but then we end up getting screwed by it.

General Comment:One of my favorites from the strokes. Just about accepting something went wrong and move on, with no bitterness. Love the melody as well,; in the beginning, it strangely gives me this warm feeling, kinda the one you get when Christmas is around.Very warm-hearted song. :)

General Comment:This has got to be my favorite Strokes song. The melody and lyrics mesh together perfectly. Casablanca's vocals are perfectly nonchalant, while Hammond's lead sets the tone- Fabrizzio adds the finishing touch by accompanying the song with the perfect 'motown' vibe.

I'm in a similar relationship now where this girl is younger by 6 years- yet realizes that relationships are independent of age, but reliant on maturity levels and common denominators. Despite the connection, I know that she still has a lot to experience without me. This song strikes a chord by expressing that exact emotion perfectly.

General Comment:beautiful song...I can relate to it completely with my ex..

Relationship that just cannot happen regardless how hard they try to make it work...like people have stated previously...he's not bitter about it he wishes her the best and it seems like he hopes they'll get together again in the future by saying"You are young darling...for now,but not for long"...

General Comment:A lot of the strokes songs, when you interpret them from the standing of a relationship, imply that the singer knows that the relationship is shallow, or that its bound to end. In this case, he's not angry that things are ending.

He expected it, and doesn't plan on going through the motions most relationships try to. Compare it to most high school relationships after graduation.

General Comment:No one has mentioned this, but I know it's in everyone's subconscious. The chords are simple, but perfect. The chords make the song.

General Comment:Well, it's a song about a young relationship. The girl breaks up with the guy, but the guy realizes that it's useless to make amends. He sees the imaturity of it all, and affirms the absurdity of continuing the relationship. So the song goes on with the selfish "I don't want to it your way", a testament to the immaturity of both the guy and the girl. But in the end, growth and maturity arises from the guy; he wishes the girl goodness. This signifies the progression of the guy's maturity, and the transition relationship that he is leaving.
