I could be mean
I could be angry
You know I could be just like you

I could be fake
I could be stupid
You know I could be just like you

You thought you were standing beside me
You were only in my way
You're wrong if you think that I'll be just like you
You thought you were there to guide me
You were only in my way
You're wrong if you think that I'll be
Just like you

I could be cold
I could be ruthless
You know I could be just like you

I could be weak
I could be senseless
You know I could be just like you

You thought you were standing beside me
You were only in my way
You're wrong if you think that I'll be just like you
You thought you were there to guide me
You were only in my way
You're wrong if you think that I'll be
Just like you

On my own, cause I can't take livin' with you
I'm alone, so I won't turn out like
You want me to

I could be cold
I could be ruthless
You know I could be just like you

I could be weak
I could be senseless
You know I could be just like you

Song Meaning:everytime b4 the bands plays it, they said the same meaning like: Its about being told how to live your life and being told what you're supposed to do with your life. Then you finally stands up for himself and you say (stuck his middle finger) fuck you, i'll live my life this way.

General Comment:He is with this person, who wants them to be the same as them... but he refuses to be like them and be as awful of a person as they are. Plain and simple.

General Comment:This song speaks to me in many situations. Especially with teachers, parents, and siblings. They always try to control you and teach you to do what they did. But this song is about the moment when we stand up and say "You're wrong if you think that I'll be just like you!!!"

My Interpretation:This song reflects my attitude of my peers going through middle and high school. All the trash bags who claimed I was a "nerd" or the horrific homophobic term, "faggot". All the lowlifes who claimed I wasn't "cool", when in fact they themselves were the ones oblivious to their own pathetic state. I could be just like them, just as idiotic and unenlightened. They thought they were there to guide me in some sad manner, informing me that "getting some" is all that matters. Truly, I could be just like that. But I'm absolutely not. And never shall be. They were only in my way. I could be as fake, stupid, and ruthless/cold as they are. But I'm not.

My Opinion:I like this song. It's catchy. It's also one of many 'I hate my parents' songs my 16 year old has on his playlist. I can understand teen angst and frustration - A thirty something like myself grew up with strict parents. I showed my fair share of attitude and defiance but I always knew there was a line I wouldn't cross - I listened to heavy metal to help get through a lot of the frustration - even death metal (bands like Obituary, Deicide, Slayer, Morbid Angel, Asphyx etc.) However, when a kid, such as my 16 year old, feels the need to push his mother around, call her obscenities, punch holes in the walls because he can't play video games all night - and then PLAYS THIS SONG to blow off steam, we're not talking about a suppressed child - we're talking about a self-centered, spoiled, brat. Anyways, this song in its proper context - parents being emotionally abusive to their kids - yes, it's a powerful message. Snot-nosed teenagers that are well taken care of and given responsibilities, cel phones, cars, priveleges and think they live horrible f%@king lives because they can't go out and do dope with their friends on a school night - this song should NOT apply.

General Comment:I don't think this is a generic "I hate my parents" song. Judging by the qualities the narrator attributes to the "you," the parents in question may have some serious moral flaws. So the singer is basically saying "Fuck you, you are not meant to be parents and I will not allow your vices to influence my character." This song is a middle finger to those who are not only morally fucked-up, but try to fuck up their kids as well.

General Comment:I personally think that this song has a lot to do with meeting new friends. And those friends think that they have "made" you into what you were after you met them. And this song is an anthem throwing it back in their face.

General Comment:Also while in my case, its a cousin and not a parent, the line "'Cause I can't take living with you" does relate, I found out a couple years back that I'm part of the reason she left, which probably makes it the nicest thing I did for the littler of my two cousins that year... I know thats an ugly thing to say but I firmly believe it was for the better...

General Comment:Recently my cousin got a phone call from her sister who she had'nt heard of in two decades. My cousin basically said I dont want to talk to you and hung up. My mom couldnt understand her reaction, but based on my own experiences with her sister I think this song might sum up how she feels... she (my cousin's sister) was completely ruthless and tried to make my cousin just like her.
