Lyrics for Away From The Sun as interpreted by Desaparecida

Away From The Sun Lyrics
It's down to this
I've got to make this life make sense
Can anyone tell what I've done
I miss the life
I miss the colors of the world
Can anyone tell where I am

Cause now again I've found myself
So far down
Away from the sun that shines into
The darkest place
I'm so far down
Away from the sun again
Away from the sun again

I'm over this
I'm tired of living in the dark
Can anyone see me down here
The feeling's gone
There's nothing left to lift me up
Back into the world I know

Cause now again I've found myself
So far down
Away from the sun that shines into
The darkest place
I'm so far down
Away from the sun
That shines to light the way for me
To find my way
Back into the arms that care about
The ones like me
I'm so far down
Away from the sun again

It's down to this
I've got to make this life make sense
And now I can't tell what I've done
And now again I've found myself
So far down
Away from the sun that shines
To light the way
For me

Cause now again I've found myself
So far down
Away from the sun that shines into
The darkest place
I'm so far down
Away from the sun
That shines to light the way for me
To find my way
Back into the arms that care about
The ones like me
I'm so far down
Away from the sun again

I'm gone...

I don't know whether or not they are christians. But I agree with tdawg. As a christian, I see a sun/son pun. I like it.

This song has had so much of an impact on my life. A couple of months back, I can truthfully say that I was severely depressed. Part of it had to do with Hurricane Katrina- though it didn't physically take anything from me-- emotionally and spiritually, it drained me. I didn't feel like any of my family or friends could identify with what I was feeling--- like they didn't understand. Music was my refuge-- and this song really hit home with me. I don't know what I would've done without this band-- they were the ones that got me into music. So anyway, I kinda credit this song with keeping me somewhat sane. :)

Away From The Sun is about a man who is always kept in the dark and feels left out like everyone has forgotten him "can anyone see me down here". It also about dealing with his depression and getting over himself.

Fuck off the religious fanatics! They think every song is about ¨their god¨ and they do not see beyond their own bible and beliefs. Boring.

This song is about being for an exchange semester in Finland far away from your home, family, friends...with just one hour of sun in the hole day and with cold people around you.

Fuck...

To most people, this song is about being in the dark and alone... and trying to get back into the light.

This song is actually written about being away from the fans. Brad Arnold (the lead singer) said that he is attached to his fans and loves how they get into the songs at the concerts. Brad is talking about being away from the stage lights, stage, fun atmosphere, and most importantly, his fans.

Oh and trust me, they are christians but don't incorperate God into their songs. They're a rock band, not a christian band. Trust me, I met the band before.

This is definitely about God, to some extent, though not necessarily Christian. "Back into the arms that care about
The ones like me"-this is a very obvious reference to a singular person grammatically. Probably, its about sinking into depression and sin, how he knows God still cares for him and is reaching towards him, "Away from the sun/That shines to light the way for me/To find my way". Very obviously, though, 3 Doors Down are not a christian band in the Contemporary Christian Music vein, although they might have faith in the personal sense.

Also, by the way, I find the sun/son thing rather forced. Just because Bono did it once...

Why do y'all always have to bring religion into things? He is depressed and as the song states want to make this life make sense. He wants to get out of that "dark place" and find something positive in life.

this song never gets old - it's one of 3DD's finest songs.

it's NOT a religious reference! why do people always have to incorporate religion into everything?

i agree with shish18 in that it's about how he misses the life that he had and now he wishes he could change everything.

obviously.. this song is about going through a hard time, and just missing the life he once had..

and i guess to us Christians, it does hold some lines that is significant to when talking about God..
which adds more emotions to the song.. but if he's Christian or not.. i don't know..

This is a great song. I love when he simply talks about how he's trapped in the dark and how he would do anything to escape it. His voice is great in this song, vety nice tune as well.

I think this song is obvious with the video... its about someone who keeps getting knocked down by life but keeps moving back up. This is why It is not depressing for me, it is a song of determination. It helps me keep going and is on my quicklist for my zune.

Yeah everyone can relate theirselves to this song but for me I think it is about when you just give someone more then too much value that you forget everything almost everything even about yourself but that person for whom you mean nothin' and after wasting alot of times you find out that you missed everything being in the sake of that person very nice work. Keep on 3 doors down.

I think this song is about somebody who has realized that he can't keep living the way he is and is trying to do something to fix it and really wants to because he can't keep living the way he is.

Just a question: Why each and every song has to be about Jesus?? This particular could be about him, but not EVERY song is about him!!!

For me, this song is about a person who was away from the things that really mattered to him: his life, his family, his friends... Maybe he had a drug addiction/was in depression or, he just maybe, fell apart from his friends... He tries to find everything he lost and become a better person...

This song is almost definately about coming out of depression. Speaking as one who has experienced it, the words of this song truly reflect the feeling. Hopelessness, darkness, and feeling down.

Excellent song. One of their best.

I always had mixed opinions of this song. They include addiction (Alcohol, drugs, anything else), religion, or low self esteem.

'It's down to this
I've got to make this life make sense
Can anyone tell what I've done
I miss the life
I miss the colors of the world
Can anyone tell where I am'

For addiction, when you look back you miss what you had. In a severe addiction to any substance your body starts to drastically change, you can develop mental illness, have nightmares, lose body functions, twitch, become weak, etc. The singer's character (Or the singer himself), realizes how in what a horrible state he is in and desperately misses his younger body before the addiction. From the lyrics, it could be possible the singer is an adult and has moved out/is living on the street. He is scared because he can't go home/doesn't have one and has no idea where to turn for help.

On the idea of depression, it could mean that he is extremely depressed and misses the days he could be happy. He feels like there is no one to help him through this or to relate, a common feeling during depression.

My opinion of the song being about religion also ties in with depression. The person was probably religious (Or a believer) before (Of any religion, I don't think it really has any real effect.). He is now depressed and is so trapped that any hope he has of 'finding his sun' or 'light at the end of the tunnel' is gone, and so is his faith and religion. He feels like God betrayed him.

'Cause now again I've found myself
So far down
Away from the sun that shines into
The darkest place
I'm so far down
Away from the sun again
Away from the sun again'

Back to addiction. Hopelessness is common in addicts. You feel like after all you've done there's no way you could ever go back to your previous state of being. You are phsyically, mentally physiologically damaged. Not to mention the pure humiliation and social contempt that recovered addicts face day in and day out.

On the depression part, feelings of isolation.

As for religion, in many faiths, (the) God(s) are associated with the sun. Being away from the 'sun' could mean being distant from God. To the point where the devine being has ceased to exist or indifferent to the singer's plight.

I might go on to explain more, the generally the song is open to interpretation because of how clear and effective it's lyrics are.

It's a fantastic song.
