This is gonna be lengthy but if you realy wanna know what this song's about read this!!!!

this song is written like a suicied letter (if you haven't noticed read it again).
It is about M Shadows best friend, Justin Sane(former A7X bass player) who had severe depression and tried to commit suicide by drinking bottles of cough syrup.

"sorrow sank deep inside my blood" that's depression.
it's rummored that part of a suicide letter that Justin wrote to Shadows is included in the song (although A7X neither aknowleges or denies it) . ppl think if any part of the song is of justins' penmenship it's> "but I can't see myself that way. please don't forget me or cry while I'm away"

In the song 'justin' says he's 'setting himself free' and 'don't blame yourself or cry for me'


an interesting line in the song is "so far away i've gone. please don't follow me tonight"
I think this is part of justin's suicde letter b/c it's only something a suicidal person could possibly think of.
In the song you'll notice he worries significanly about how the people he loved would react. asking Shadows 'not to follow him'

"No more breath inside, essence left my heart tonight."> the most powerful lyrics i've ever heard. and i am a huge music buff. but nothing, no poetry, no song lyrics can even hold a candle to the power of those few lyrics. : (

Yes, this a truly powerful song. For me, this captures the feeling of wanting to commit suicide perfectly. It even knocks Metallica's Fade to Black out of the park.

This is definately about suicide. But to WiseWiz, man, no way does this knock Fade to Black out of the park. Fade to Black is probably one of the best songs ever written. Let alone about suicide. I see nothing ever beating it considering the bands out there nowadays. Dont get me wrong this is a good song and A7X is really good, but better than Fade to Black? No freakin' way.

I love this song, because its not so much about how bad his life was it seems to be more about emotions and i think the reflection of not being able to see himself that way, depicts the way i think a lot of suicidal ppl must feel. amazing song espesh with the follow on by part 2

all i can say when my best friend hung himself back in oct. this was the only CD i could listen to all week i baught it the day before he did it and more some reason it just makes me feel good A7X is awesome

M. Shadows didn't find justin... he was tripping on dxm and his girlfriend woke him up. He is bipolar, and that combined with the dxm made him freak out. He left the band because of his son. He was actually in the mental intitution before recording STST.

I really can't say enough about this song. It's my favourite song in the world on all levels, lyrically, musically, emotionally, it has such a power and energy it's very hard to find in music now-a-days.
Shadows voice is at it's best, he was made for this song. I absolutely love it.
The meaning, as people have already said, is definately suicide after dissolving of a relationship. I'm guessing the final lines,
"No more breath inside,
Essence left my heart tonight"
are about life leaving his body. Incredible. If you havn't listened to this song yet, do it! You can't imagine what you're missing.

this song really got me when i first listened to it....i listened to it for hours and hours when my frend burned me their cd....its a great song....def suicidal....best suicidal song ive heard.....o and by the way to Drizzt.....the bassist Cliff Burton was the one that was thrown out of the buss....he was one of the best.....
