Go

So one, two, three, take my hand and come with me
Because you look so fine
That I really wanna make you mine

I say you look so fine
That I really wanna make you mine

Oh, four, five, six c'mon and get your kicks
Now you don't need the money
When you look like that, do ya honey?

Big black boots
Long brown hair
She's so sweet
With her get back stare

Well, I could see
You home with me
But you were with another man, yeah
I know we ain't got much to say
Before I let you get away, yeah
I said, are you gonna be my girl?

Well, so one, two, three, take my hand and come with me
Because you look so fine
That I really wanna make you mine

I say you look so fine
That I really wanna make you mine

Oh, four, five, six c'mon and get your kicks
Now you don't need the money
With a face like that, do ya?

Big black boots
Long brown hair
She's so sweet
With her get back stare

Well, I could see
You home with me
But you were with another man, yeah
I know we ain't got much to say
Before I let you get away, yeah
I said, are you gonna be my girl?

Oh yeah, oh yeah, c'mon

I could see
You home with me
But you were with another man, yeah
I know we ain't got much to say
Before I let you get away, yeah
Uh, be my girl
Be my girl
Are you gonna be my girl?
Yeah

This song becomes a classic to your ears when you hear it for the very first time. It's pretty simple but in its simplicity its a masterpiece. When I heard it for the first time I thought it was a 50s hit cover by Jet (about 4 years back, when I didn't know Jet yet) 'cos the lyrics are pretty similar to some rock hits of that decade: Short lines but very descriptive (if you don't like or you don't know 50's rock just listen to some of Chuck Berry's hits to understand what I'm sayin').

    Keep on rockin', Jet!

Chris Cester responded to the media debacle, stating in a Jared Story interview that the beat was taken from Motown, referring to a meeting between Iggy Pop and himself:

"It's funny because I asked him point blank about that. He said I was crazy. He said that when he and David Bowie were writing "Lust for Life", they were ripping off Motown's beat. It's funny that he said that to me because we also thought we were ripping off Motown more than "Lust for Life". To be honest with you that kind of annoyed me a lot, because I always thought it was really lazy. People just go well Lust for Life is more well-known so that's what they go for, but if you listen to a song like "You Can't Hurry Love" (The Supremes) I think you'll find its closer to "Are You Gonna Be My Girl" than "Lust for Life" ever was. And that's what Iggy said as well."

    Song Comparison

Anyone else agree there's a different version? I have two versions in my music now.

    1. The first VERSION starts of with muffled tamborine, and the bass sounds more like a slap bass.

    2. The second version has a bright sharp tamborine, and the singer COUGHS.

    Anyone else notice that?

I like it, however I wouldn't go home with a guy who asked me like that...whatever. Doesn't sound like "Lust for Life" to me.

The reason it sounds like Lust For Life is because the drumbeat is similar. But other songs use a similar drumbeat. It's just common in old-school and punk rock. Other songs that uses similar beats are "Last Nite" and "Someday" both by The Strokes.

By the way, there's another version of this song on the net, the one that's not on the CD. It's about 30 seconds longer and is more bass-y. It's better, imo.

Well, I may be one of a few Australians who like Jet (everyone hates them and I can't understand why!!!) and I've got to thank this song and Hold On to strengthen my love of Jet. At least they've made a name for themselves. We don't really have a great music industry unless you like Delta Goodrem...Oi.

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

When We Were Young
Blink-182
This is a sequel to 2001's "Reckless Abandon", and features the band looking back on their clumsy youth fondly.

No Surprises
Radiohead
Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.

Punchline
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.

Page
Ed Sheeran
There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
