It is a gift I know
A moment of bliss that we hold
A firecracker flash of light then on
To the next plane soul remain
Come along if you dare
It's gonna be that you're scared
Lovely life I thank you
For the reason to see the pain through

Light a candle for the dead
The wick is burning returning what we have
It's who we are
We'll reach you if you're beyond the furthest star

Don't give up the fight to stay alive and even if
you have to
Find the reason of another's pain if they lose you
If not for your self then those around who care
like I do
One day you'll see the clear blue

Beyond the Gray Sky
Light a candle
The wick
It's who we are

One day you'll see the clear blue
Beyond the Gray Sky

I can't believe you didn't call
What made you want to end it all
Wasn't there something I should have tried
To help you see beyond the gray sky

this song was written for nick hexum's highschool friend dave barker who commited suicide in 2003. I was his nephew and his wife amy also happen to be good freinds with nick. durring a concert before they preformed the song in nebraska he said "this ones for dave."

this song is about someone committing suicide.. and if you ever have the thoughts, or feeling negative, to put yourself in your loved ones shoes to see how they would react to such a terrible thing

yeah, its definetly about someone committing suicide. ive had a friend attempt before, and i can relate to this song, cause it hurts to think, that someone can be so selfish to take their own life without thinking the affect it would have on others around them. in that moment, its hard for that person to realize how much more to life there is and that there is something "beyond the gray sky." Everyone just needs someone to be there for them to show them that its not the end, its not always going to be bad, and "one day you'll see the clear blue."

Nick wrote this song about his friend that commited suicide, and its just all his thoughts and feelings on that, its an awesome song, and i always listen to it when i am down. i have sent this song to many of my friends when they are depressed and they have gotten way into 311 and love it. it should only be fair that Nick knows how many lives he probably saved with this one song, not to mention all of 311's other positive songs

I really like this song, I think it's really positive in that he's sending the message things will always get better and to hang in there untill they do.

I can honestly say that for the first time ever, a song actually spoke to me. Ive really loved certain songs in the past (Iris by the goo goo dolls is my all time favorite, followed by vision of love by mariah carey at a close 2nd) but when i heard this song almost a year ago (Off the greatest hits album) i literally felt touched by the lyric "Dont give up to stay alive and even if you have to find the reason of anothers' pain if they lose you. If not for yourself, then those around who care like I do." It spoke to me. I didnt necessarily feel like Nick Hexum was singing to me or anything weird like that, but it really helped me see that even at my lowest point, i am loved by SOMEONE, you know?

Little Feat
Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again.
