Sun through the curtains,
I gave you a sign,
The birds were all quiet,
You were so quiet,

Some hear a call,
Some are the messengers,
I thumb through the pictures,
And know them all.

They said, "Do you remember when you saw her last"
I said, "Her skin is cinnamon,
Her skin is cinnamon."

I have too many stories, keeping it serious,
Some are collectors, some keep it straight,
It was a hospital,
I was delirious,
I clung to the stretcher
And drew them a heart.

Two gondolas to carry us,
Grand Via was hilarious,
St. Paul was there to marry us,
We lied, "We're already married!"

'cause here's proof: we have suntans,
And I spoke up with my new hands,
Listen to my car,
What is it telling us?
Start... please start, please start.

Is it spring where you are?
I waited all winter
Chasing the lamp cords back to the wall,
It's a plausible scenario:
I clung the stretcher,
I drew them a heart.

Song Meaning:John Roderick (the lead singer for The Long Winters) is touring solo with Amiee Mann and we saw him perform this the other night. He says that the song is about a couple that belongs to the Baader Meinhof gang in Germany in the 1980’s. The couple is separated in the course of performing some ill-intentioned acts. The man is injured and captured. The lyrics are told from the perspective of the man, while he’s being interrogated by the Polizei. John’s funny, and an excellent story teller. So, I give it a 50% chance that he just made that story up on stage to mess with us; but the lyrics fit and he seems like the type of guy that would write a song about German militants who’s love story has taken an unfortunate turn for the worst.

General Comment:I think it fits better with a car accident.
hence him clinging to the stretcher, since he too was injured in the accident.
not a murder or amnesia. just discombobulated after the crash.

Song Meaning:the more i look at it i think its the guy that dies... and meeting her in the afterlife...that why the song is so upbeat and happy yet about something so sad...like hes dieing in the hosipital unable to give clear answers about the the whereabouts of his love...but all he can say is her skin is cinnamon, possibly covered in blood of his own...hes dieing and someones asking cause they want to go get her so she can see him before he dies but she is else where in the hospital..

General Comment:when he says he thumbed through pictures?
it's definitely a missing person, and that's what they do; show you pictures of the person and ask if you've seen them. why would they give him pictures if he killed her?

General Comment:I've always gotten the impression that he's gotten maybe in a car accident, and has a concussion. The nonsensical rambling of the song, along with him mentioning clinging to a stretcher imply to me that he's on his way to a hospital in an ambulance and unable to come up with any sort of real thought.

General Comment:I think that something bad happened to her, she got hurt or something, and he was trying to take her to the hospital, that's why he kept begging his car to please start, and I think he got in an accident on the way to the hospital, now her body's missing, and he has amnesia, and is only remembering slight details. Her skin reminds him of cinnamon, he remembers trying to get his car to start. He remembers a trip they took together, but he doesn't remember losing her (her dying most likely)

General Comment:This song is about spies. Like soviet era cloke and danger spies. He is captured and they are getting info from him. They did an in-studio at my radio station and said so.
