Lyrics for Telescope Eyes as interpreted by ThreeMilesDown

Telescope Eyes Lyrics
oh, you humor me today
calling me out to play
with your telescope eyes, metal teeth
i can't be seen with you, you freak

go cry, go run away
let your short legs carry you away
with your big dress
and your dirty hair
your pen's waiting for you
just get far, far away from me
i don't want your disease

(chorus)
please don't make me cry
please don't make me cry
i'm just like you
i know you know
i'm just like you
so leave me alone

dear matthew, why can't you see?
you're just not near enough like me
with your telescope eyes, metal teeth
i can't be seen with you

(chorus x 2)-break-
(chorus x 2)
oh, you humor me today

I don't think those lyrics are right...

I'm not sure what she's talking about exactly. Is it about some kid with glasses (teloscope eyes) and braces (metal teeth) that is sort of enarmored by her? Maybe a friend who is a "loser" and she doesn't want to be associated with him or her, but she feels sad because inside they are just the same.

Wow. I need to seriously think about getting their debut LP. I don't go for female rock vocalists that much, but wow. Sounds a little like Lindsay Buckingham.

Great song. They stripped it down a little and sped up the tempo for the LP version. It's a nice change for a song I have grown very fond of.

After litening to the newer more upbeat version of the song and watching the bideo this song took on a new meaning. I think it's really about growing up and ggivig up childish ideas.

oh, you humor me today
calling me out to play

kinda like an imaginary friend. This person has "telescope eyes" and "metal teeth" which can be taken as glasses and braces, however i think it's supposed to depict a fantasy creature. The video kinda supports this. In the begginning she believes in ghost however with encouragement from friends she eventually tells the ghost she doesn't believe and the ghost leaves.
It's just the mening thevideo portrays

I'm pretty sure this song is about a ghost and being scared of things at night when you're alone.
These lyrics needed a little fixing.

*Oh, you humor me today
Calling me out to play
With your telescope eyes, metal teeth
I can't be seen with you, you see

Chorus:
Please dont make me cry
Please don't make me cry
I'm just like you, I know you know
I'm just like you so leave me alone

I wonder, why can't you see?
You're just not near enough like me
With your telescope eyes, metal teeth
I can't be seen with you

The lyrics on this page are from the Telescope Eyes that was recorded on their first EP. Warner Bros./Reprise Records asked Sherri DuPree to rewrite the song once Eisley got signed by them.

This song was rerecorded about twice.

I think that the first version of the song is better. You can download it at http://www.orangegoldandgreen.com/audio.html
(it's legal and free)

Hmm, sounds to me that this song is more about someone disavowing having any sort of contact with a "nerdy" person. The verses are from someone singing about this little geeky kid, while the chorus is all that the kid can say. His/her emotion is more due to the fact that this person he's speaking to used to be a friend of his, something that he never really had before because of his current social state.

the "nerdy" person is the person she used to be, her old self

This song reminds me of Heather Matarazzo's character in Welcome to the Dollhouse. And the way she treats her best male friend near the climax of the story.

I can see two possible meanings:
First of all, the one that\'s already been mentioned; \"telescope eyes\" meaning glasses, \"metal teeth\" meaning braces. A nerdy boy is infatuated with her, and she\'s afraid that her reputation will be moot if she returns his affection. \"Please don\'t make me cry... I\'m just like you\" could be the boy\'s reponse to this treatment.
The second possible meaning is that the boy is too critical of the speaker; \"telescope eyes\" could refer to someone who doesn\'t miss a flaw, and \"metal teeth\" the following criticism. In this case, \"Please don\'t make me cry... I\'m just like you\" would be the girl\'s plea to be left alone; she is human, after all.
I think both interpretations are likely, but I havn\'t seen the video, so this is based solely on the lyrics.
Fabulous song. I adore Eisley\'s sound and lyrics.

I totally agree with helenrips, if you've seen that movie you would know. She's talking to a friend she decides she thinks she's become too good for, or something along those lines. So you, with the glasses and braces, get away from me because you're just like me and I'd rather not be just like you.

Actually I think that this song has nothing to do with ghosts at all. But instead, it is about seeing something or someone strange and thinking him to be a "ghost" or a strange drifter with the traits of a monster.

And the girl (or boy) has a particular sick(sick NOT meaning "wrong" but rather squeamish or ill) interest in this "ghost" for she secretly knows that they share some of the same traits, but she does not want others
to know of this acknowledgement, so she is telling the "ghost" to "go away" and to quit calling her "out to play".

i agree with both kefr617 and KymStarCry, meaning i think that she dosn't want to be with someone "nerdy" because she used to be that way and she thinks that if she's with some one who is "nerdy" like she was she might be concidered "nerdy" again and she dosn't want that so she says she "can't be with you, you see".

This probably isn't the right meaning, and everyone is relating stuff to ghosts and junk, and I haven't seen the music video so I can't say anything on that but..
I thought she was kind of telling a story of how people would make fun of her with her braces and glasses and being a 'geek'. And I kind of think when she would say "I can't be seen with you" she liked a popular guy or something but she realized he would never want to be with her...
I don't know, maybe I'm just trying to relate a song to myself or something, that's just what I thought...

ahhhh i like the older version soooo much better. maybe it's because it's the first version of telescope eyes i heard, but it was also one of the first eisley songs i had heard.

the older version is a bit different than the newer one. ieverytime i hear this song i think of all of the scary things from my childhood, which is kind of what the video is about but.....ehhhh...i duno.

First off, I'm a little tired of this song, but I like it.
Second: I love the first verison of the song. In fact, I'm listening to it now. The begginging with piano is beautiful, I wish they would play it like that.
Third: Yes, I think this song is about Sherri/Stacy when/if they had braces and/or glasses, they felt like freaks, and they thought everyone didn't want to hang around with them, "i cant be seen with you, you freak".

But they aren't freaks. They're beautiful ladies.

The end.
