I backed my car into a cop car the other day
Well, he just drove off - sometimes life's okay
I ran my mouth off a bit too much, ah what did I say?
Well, you just laughed it off and it was all okay
And we'll all float on okay
And we'll all float on okay
And we'll all float on okay
And we'll all float on anyway, well
A fake Jamaican took every last dime with that scam
It was worth it just to learn some sleight of hand
Bad news comes, don't you worry even when it lands
Good news will work it way to all them plans
We both got fired on, exactly, the same day
Well, we'll float on, good news is on the way
And we'll all float on okay
And we'll all float on okay
And we'll all float on okay
And we'll all float on alright
Already we'll all float on
Now don't you worry we'll all float on alright
Already we'll all float on alright
Don't worry we'll all float on
Alright, Already
And we'll all float on alright
Already we'll all float on alright
Don't worry even if things end up a bit
Too heavy we'll all float on alright
Already, we'll all float on alright
Already, we'll all float on okay
Don't worry, even if things get heavy
We'll all float on alright
Already, we'll all float on
(Alright!)
Now don't you worry, we'll all float on
(Alright!)
We'll all float on
Well, he just drove off - sometimes life's okay
I ran my mouth off a bit too much, ah what did I say?

"even when things get heavy, we're all Float On"
Life goes on, you don't have to forget. But you cant get stuck in the dark.
That's what I still get from this song every time I listen to it. I'm able to think of my lil bro and smile.
"It was a completely conscious thing. I was just kind of fed up with how bad shit had been going, and how dark everything was, with bad news coming from everywhere. Our president is just a fucking daily dose of bad news! Then you've got the well-intentioned scientists telling us that everything is fucked. I just want to feel good for a day. I'd had some friends die, and with Jeremy kind of losing it... After we got out of that dark spot with everything melting down with the band, I just wanted to make a positive record. I think we managed to make a quarter of the record positive, and the rest is either kind of dark or more just relaxing into things being how they are, resigned."
The world is shit. You can either blindly accept it and pretend you're happy or do something to try and change it but things aren't just going to get better for no reason. And you're never going to actually "Float On," until you're dead.
This song is about making the best out of every situation and knowing that good news will always follow bad news. Which is funny, considering this son's relationship with World at Large.
The World at Large is a pretty sad song. The singer is a drifter, never stays in one place, and is constantly being dissapionted, getting tired of a place, or just feeling like he needs to move on.
The end is what really makes both songs amazing. After an incredible closing, The World at Large ends with one note, the same note Float On starts with. Listening to these songs back to back, you wouldn't even know they were two different songs.
I'm pretty sure the message at this point is obvious. No matter how bad things seem, or how many bad things happen, you can always make the most of it and Float On.
Granted, this isn't exactly the angry, dirty, sickly Modest Mouse we know and love, but it is quite incredible. If you don't like it for the cheery message, at least enjoy Isaac's guitar.
