Some days go by, I wish I was famous
Or maybe religious, so I could go to heaven
Just like you

I can have a big house, complain about taxes
Payoff my ex'es, ain't that living?
No one makes fun of me, cause I can't stand up for myself

Whoa, 21 and invincible
Whoa, can't wait to screw this up
And woah, 21 and invincible
I'm in power for the hour
Guess today's gonna blow us away

I've got a girlfriend
She tells me she needs me
And she loves me
We'll probably get married
Oh no, and everyone will bite their tongues so hard they'll bleed

When mom hears this song
She'll tell me I'm crazy
And she'll say to me
"Son you're much too young,
Go have some fun,
Don't waste your youth like I did"

And whoa, 21 and invincible
Whoa, can't wait to screw this up
And woah, 21 and invincible
I'm in power for the hour
I guess today's gonna blow us away

And it's been autumn since the day that I met you
If I hit bottom, must I crawl out alone?
And I dont wish to know the secrets of summer at all

Let's go

And whoa, 21 and invincible
Whoa, can't wait to fuck this up
And woah, 21 and invincible
I'm in power for the hour
I guess today's gonna blow us away

General Comment:I think it's very ironic that he wrote this song entitled 21 and Invincible, and when he was 22 he was diagnosed with leukemia
    I love Andrew McMahon

General Comment:I disagree with Possibly Sane about the meaning of the lines “And it’s been autumn since the day that I met you/If I hit bottom, must I crawl out alone?/And I don’t wish to know the secrets of summer at all.” Most people do compare love to summer, but think about what happens in autumn, also known as fall. Aha! I think he means that he fell for her when he met her. Then the next line makes sense. He’s wondering if she’ll leave him or stay with him during the troubled times. The part about summer I think could refer to summer flings, which are fleeting. He wants something far more permanent. Now, where does this fit in with being 21 and invincible? I think the fact that he’s willing to give it all up for her and he thinks she’ll do the same for him. His mom tells him not to waste his youth by getting married. He says he doesn’t care, he’ll screw it up because he’s got the power.

General Comment:this song is about the delusion we all have about turning different ages, in this song its twenty one. he believes that when he turns twenty one everything will be different from him and all of his problems will magically disappear. he talks of all the great things he will do when he gets to this age and how wonderful things will be however he is afraid that when he gets there he might be alone. he speaks of a girl who makes everything better for him and he wants to keep her in his life.

General Comment:Is it just me or is this the world's official college song?

And I think the first verse "so I could go to heaven just like you" is more about self-righteousness, and how it's just not worth it. Who gives a damn what everyone else thinks? And the next "I'll have a big house....etc." is about that once you're an adult you have responsibilities. At 21, you don't have anything like that. You're alive just for the sake of living. Thinking about heaven or paying your taxes, the ideas are just superfluous. For this one hour, you are everything you want to be. And no one can interfere with that.

General Comment:I think this song's kind of about the innocence of youth, and how sometimes when you're younger, you think that nothing can really stop you. I dunno, I think it's kind of like, he thought he was invincible, but he wasn't "Can't wait to screw this up"
When he says he has a girlfriend, and that "We'll probably get married" I think it's about how they most likely won't, which in my mind is backed up by the lines "And it's been autumn since the day that I met you"
Most people relate love to a summer's day, and he's relating this to autumn, so it's like..maybe he doesn't love her? Or he thought he did, but he doesn't?
"If I hit bottom, must I crawl out alone?"
His girlfriend might have left him (hitting bottom), and he has to crawl out alone, or something of that sort..maybe his girlfriend isn't there for him all the time
"And I don't wish to know the secrets of summer at all"
He doesn't want to know what love is?

I don't really know, this is just what it means to me :)
    and I love this song!!

General Comment:Of course it's about being of legal drinking age!
    In power for the hour...
    Happy hour.
    Being 21,
    that's kinda obvious isn't it?

But it's also about being worried that he's going to mess up all his new found freedoms.
There's someone he loves who recently died,
so he wants to be good,
so he can go to heaven.

He also has a girlfriend he wants to marry,
but he doesn't think his mom will aprove,
& he's not sure what to do...
he's only known the girl for about a year,
and he want's to make sure she'll be there,
    even when things get bad.

General Comment:i saw jack's mannequin last night and they played this song. andrew talked before he played it and said that this song's meaning completely changed after he found out he had leukemia. in the beginning, it was about fucking up and having the opportunity to do so. now, it has a total irony about it, because he was so young when he was diagnosed and he found out that he's not invincible at all.

he also played it much slower with just a piano, i think
