I'm pretty sure it is deeper than that. True, the words sound like he wants to make love but I think the word selection is used to hide the real meaning. To me it sounds like he is trying to mend a broken relationship saying "I won't make you" meaning he won't force her to make amends with him because he hurt her so bad.

i agree "sensesfail250" (amazing band btw) i think he speeaking of a desire to mend a broken relationship...that he may or may not have broken himself. i don't think it's clear if he broke up with her or her with him. but man, this song is beautiful. he wants to make her love him but he wants it to be her own decision because he knows that love is not something you can force. and i love it for rhat

i truly think this is about broken relationships. this was one of my ex-boyfriend's favourite songs. i really identify because although i hate when things end, i would never want to change somebody's mind if it would make them unhappy.

I agree about the broken relationship, but it sounds like he is in a moment long after the relationship ended and is missing it. Like a longing for your first love sort of thing, but she never forgave him for whatever happened, and he wants forgiveness and to recreate what they used to have.

I definitely agree that this song is about mending a broken relationship, or returning to a once failed relationship. However, I still have that tingling urge to sing "I won't rape you" whenever the chorus comes one. Forgive me, Josh, for desecrating your beautiful song... :(

another one of my favorite songs off North. i agree with this being about a relationship that ended in a bitter way. he feels bad and he wants to see her but she was hurt so badly that she probably never wants to see him again. that's a sucky feeling.

What always upset me is that at the Cinci show a year ago, 2 girls who I'm going to guess the ages at 14 or so..anyways..they were like "I don't like that song..it reminds me of rape.." :/ I heard somewhere that this song was originally a poem. I love Joshs songs and his wording.

this is probably my favorite song off the north cd... just the fact that he is in love with the girl so much that he wont force her to get back with him... i love soco and (this probably isnt right but...)i think that he broke up with the girl but realized it was all just a misunderstanding...too late. she was already trying to move on... and she wouldnt talk to him bc he had already hurt her and she wouldnt let him do that to her again....if she had only known ... but he is saying that no matter what he still would want her and wasnt just going to give up so easily.

I think that he screwed something up with the girl cuz he's saying he's under attack, and that he's tried to call her but she won't answer and he's tried to apologize to her. but yea I love this song.

when u guys say its about him wanting him and his, what im assuming, ex gf to get back together.. i could not agree anymore.. and if u dont know exactly whos fault it was.. im almost positive it was "his" fault because he talks about an apology letter that he wrote..

great song tho! :) So Co is my favorite band.. and i have a really close girl i like to share this music with.. So Co is a great way to analyze any disfuctions or screw ups in ur love life..

Really really like this song, I think that hes trying to win this girl back as he done something that caused them to break up but he wants it to be her that wants it rather than just her or something that makes sense. Its an amazing song but and you can kinda feel the hurt that he going through when hes singing it.

This song screams the bitter feelings of losing someone that you want so close. It could be something you did, he did, she did. But you want this person back more than anything. It kills you to not have them, but you can't make them do anything they dont want to do. "the best thing i can think to do right now is leave it alone" Story of MY life, right there. So many times, i just dont know what to do. So i leave it be. Its a hopeless hope. Kinda tragic....

everyone reads to much into this song,no i am joking.
but really i think that this song is about sex and heartbreak. i think that he like hurt her.
but then she hurt him by not taking him back and now he is all sad.
but the sexxx part,mhmmm,it is about a guy wantihng to get in a girls pants but trying to look good by being all"i won't make you".i know that sounds like i am being shallow but i have listen to this song since it came out.
and i think that might be what it means.

This is what I think.
Yeah it about his heartbreak, and how he longs to be with this girl again but it is also obviously about sex, in a deep way though. Many of the lines in this song indicate that. 'I won't make you' : This part has double meaning. He won't make her do anything to him, physically or not, because he knows she's moved on while he's still hung up on her. It's obvious however that his regret is too late since she is not reacting to him in any way ('And you had an apology in your mailbox since last July').
Amazing song.
