Rest in peace girl, your death is such a shame
The paper said a bullet got in your way
But I smell foulplay, possible poisoning
I had to bring her in for questioning
I went to your grave, dug up your body
Brought it to my house, where you lay

So lets play doctor babe
We'll operate today
Incisions must be made
You could help solve this case
For me

I headed downtown, to share what I had found
It's not a suicide, it's a crime
I have a witness, it's clearly evident
There had to be someone else present
At the time of death, poisons in stomach
How could she pull it, if she's dead?

So lets play doctor babe
We'll operate today
Incisions must be made
You could help solve this case
We need a scalpel now
Under white lights you lay
We've got to hurry up
Before the flesh decays
Away, away

I'll catch the murderer
And send him away
I'll get the evidence
From your last day

Your last day

So lets play doctor babe
We'll operate today
Incisions must be made
You could help solve this case
We need a scalpel now
Under white lights you lay
We've got to hurry up
Before the flesh decays

Away, away

General Comment:Buddy comments about this song in a live video. He says it's about losing faith. I imagine there's no direct reference to the actual meaning because it's a touchy subject and considering it was the 'pop' song off of this CD the band/producers wouldn't want to take away from it's sell-ability. The lyrics seem to be a metaphor for self-scrutiny, other forces did not 'get to the bottom' of the crime so he's digging up all the evidence to find out the truth for himself.

That's my take on the song.

General Comment:These are the darkest and most emo lyrics I've ever heard and they're great! I agree with the people who said this song is a metaphor. I reckon he and a girl broke up or something and he's trying to prove she left for another guy hence the "murder rather than suicide" parts.

    Lyric Correction:Shouldn't the lyrics read:

    "After time of death
    Poisons in stomach
How could she pour it if she's dead"

Because if it is at time of death and poisons are in the stomach that is certainly possible. She drank poison, decided that wasn't working, and then shot herself. If after time of death the poison is found then there is no way she could have poured the poison; therefore, it would have to be foul play.

I don't know, just my thoughts on what they either should have said or what we mishear.

General Comment:I think Buried A Lie, is about a relationship. Buddy likes to use Metaphors to create a basis of explanation of how he feels. I think Buddy Nelson, actually thrives to know everything he wants to know about this girl he's madly in love with. He trys so hard to analyse and understand everything that runs through her mind. And her being dead, is a dramatic way of emphasizing how closed of and emotionally cold she is.

He desperately wants to find out what's bothering her, he wants to know everything.

I also think it's about how there's more to what other people say. "It's not a suicide, it's a crime", kind of reinstates how, he feels she's okay, and the damage that's done, is someone else perpretating. How she's dead or needs operating on, and he really wants to help her, he feels sorry for her, in some way or another.

General Comment:I just watched the new dvd of senses fails live show on halloween of 2009 on "the fire" cd and just before they play this song buddy says, "this song is about losing your faith" and proceeds to play buried a lie. I dont see it in the lyrics and i guess that makes everyone else here wrong.

Idk, I saw alot of people saying it could be about a relationship gone sour, and it certainly could be:

Its not a suicide, its a crime - She didnt end it because she fell out of love, someone persuaded her to leave him

I have a witness - Friend saw her with someone else beforehand

There had to be someone else present - ^^

though it could just simply be, a song.

    General Comment:this is a great song =)
the meaning is basically a dude's girlfriend dies
and he thinks someone else did it so he digs up his girlfriend's
body and does tests on it and stuff

Song Meaning:Its a fictional story about a guy who's girlfriend or ex-girlfriend is murdered and the narrator dug up her body because everyone else thinks she killed herself and he doesn't believe that. once he does this he finds out she is she was poisoned before she died. So now he is trying to tell everyone that she was murdered and didn't commit suicide but he's having a hard time getting people to believe him. If he doesn't get someone to believe him all the evidence will go away. Also he promises her that he will find out who killed her and make him go to prison for the crime

Song Meaning:Actually, this song is about one of Buddy's ex-girlfriends. I recall him saying on stage that he used to tell his ex (when she pissed him off) that he was gonna kill her and bury her in his backyard. So then, his meaning starts from there. "Buried A Lie" basically stands for him giving up on a fake relationship. :D I LOVE SF. going to go see them at warped 09'. =]

General Comment:I really love this song.

it just tells a story about a guy who loved a girl who died, doesn't believe what what the papers are telling him about a "suicide", so he digs her up and operates to figure out what really happaned.

even though it probably has some deeper meaning.
    whatever (:
