Nothing unusual
Nothing strange
Close to nothing at all
The same old scenario
The same old rain
And there's no explosions here
Then something unusual
Something strange
Comes from nothing at all
I saw a spaceship
Fly by your window
Did you see it disappear?
Amie, come sit on my wall
And read me the story of O
And tell it like you still believe
That the end of the century
Brings a change for you and me
Nothing unusual
Nothing's changed
Just a little older that's all
But you know when you've found it
There's something I've learned
'Cause you feel it when they take it away
Hey, hey, hey
Something unusual
Something strange
Comes from nothing at all
But I'm not a miracle
And you're not a saint
Just another soldier
On the road to nowhere
Amie, come sit on my wall
And read me the story of O
And tell it like you still believe
That the end of the century
Brings a change for you and me
And Amie, come sit on my wall
And read me the story of O
And tell it like you still believe
That the end of the century
Brings a change for you and me
Nothing strange
Close to nothing at all
The same old scenario
The same old rain

I saw Damien Rice in Philly (one of the best shows I ever went to) and he said that this song is basically about being with someone who you can let your gaurd down with and completely opening yourself to the impossible. Once you do, anything impossible or magical can happen.
i know this is almost completely different to what others have said, and ive not really looked into the name 'Amie' or the story of 'O' but when i first heard this song i thought of a father talking to his daughter. maybe hes been away and hes come back:<br /> <br /> 'Nothing unusual, nothing's changed<br /> Just a little older that's all<br /> You know when you've found it,<br /> There's something I've learned<br /> 'Cause you feel it when they take it away'<br /> <br /> he could be saying that nothings changed, im still your father, were just both a little older, and how he misses her and didnt realise hw lucky he was to have her until she was out of his life.<br /> the sitting on the wall reminds me of a child too. its only an idea and its sort of stuck in my head now, i quite like the idea of the father and daughter bond too, its something different to write a song about :)
@BlackEyedAngels <br /> <br /> Well, maybe. IF you think that he understands his own song?!?<br /> <br /> /s<br /> <br /> *thanks for the explanation…
@BlackEyedAngels I think that is the best interpretation, straight from the masters mouth. That's the way I looked at it too.
