Lyrics for Wheel as interpreted by spickly

Wheel Lyrics
People have the right to fly
And when it gets compromised
Their hearts say "Move along"
Their minds say "Gotcha heart"
Let's move it along
Let's move it along

And airports
See it all the time
With someone's last goodbye
Blends in with someone's sigh
Cause someone's coming home
In hand a single rose

And that's the way this wheel keeps working now
That's the way this wheel keeps working now
And I won't be the last
No I won't be the last,
To love her

And you can't build a house of leaves
And live like it's an evergreen
It's just a season thing
It's just this thing that seasons do

And that's the way this wheel keeps working now
That's the way this wheel keeps working now
And you won't be the first
No you won't be the first
To love me

You can find me, if you ever want to give
I'll be around the bend
I'll be around the bend
I'll be around,
I'll be around
And if you never stop when you wave goodbye
You just might find if you give it time
You will wave hello again
You just might wave hello again

And that's the way this wheel keeps working now
That's the way this wheel keeps working now

You can't love too much, one part of it (repeat then fade)

I believe that my life's gonna see
The love I give
Return to me
I believe that my life's gonna see
The love I give
Return to me
I believe that my life's gonna see
The love I give
Return to me [repeat 1x]

this is one of john's most beautiful songs. it expresses john as a person.

"I believe that my life's gonna see
The love I give
Return to me" (amazing lyric)

the song is so warm and shows that there is no such thing as loving to much. the song illustrates how loving john is, but he hasn't yet found the one to return/share his love.

this is one of my favorite songs, it's got such a beautiful mood to it. i think it's about the process of love. it's saying there's an unbelievable amount of love in the world and you can never love enough. my favorite line is "you can't love too much, one part of it." then he fades out "one part of it." i think he's stress you too love as much and you can and love in different way--as many as you can.

i think he is saying that by giving as much love as he can, he will get rewarded for it.

awesome song!!! why aren't there more posts!?!?!?!

this song is about how everything in life keeps changing and moving on, and that even though you won't have everything for all eternity that you should love each part of life as if you would have it for all eternity. but in the end everything comes back around to you. it's the never ending "wheel"

jsee, I agree whole-heartedly with you. Its like he saying too much of a good thing is a bad thing. I think the Lion King illustrated it best with 'The Circle of Life' theme, except John shows it here with the life of love. :)

It just goes to show you that life really does go on after a hard fall, and as much as the inital imact of losing someone may make you swear never to love again, you truely will. Its just how life goes, congrats for nailing it John.

I really do not understand what's up with the lack of comments on this song, because it's incredible. This is probably one of my favorite songs ever. The effect it has on the listener is incredible. It's a real feeling song. The lyrics are witty and touching and applicable. I adore this song.

this song to me is like a consolation for saying goodbye, whether going away or to a relationship. it's saying don't be too sad because this is the way the world works, and who knows, if it's meant to be, there's no reason it can't happen in the future. "you can't love too much, one part of it" is so true. you have to realize that everything changes, and to embrace it, not fear it.

Its funny, i always interpretted the line "you cant love too much, one part of it" as saying you can never give it enough love. Not that too much love is a bad thing.... I like my interpretation.

This song really is touching. I read an interview with Mayer in a magazine and he says that this song absolutely breaks his heart. I think he said he can't even listen to it anymore because there's so much emotion behind it. Honestly, I can't even listen to it a lot, it DOES break your heart! It's beautiful on the piano too, though not entirely the same.

I think this is the most beautiful song he has written...I'm glad to see others (as well as John himself) are so moved by it. Almost every time I hear it I am in tears by the end...

"you can't love too much one part of it..."
One of the truest lyrics...I see it as meaning to love and love deeply but don't allow yourself to loose sight of everything else as the "wheel" will keep on turning.

"I believe, that my life's gonna see, the love I give returned to me..."
What a beautiful way to see the world.

this is such a good song. i love the line "And if you never stop when you wave goodbye, you just might find if you give it time, you will wave hello again". i think that's about trying to get over someone and become their friend...it takes time. the guitar in this song is awesome too.

I think that the first line in this song-"people have the right to fly,and will when it gets comprimised"is very touching for me.that theme has been prevalent in my life anyways.this is a very beuatiful and moving song and its one of my favorites from john mayer. John is an amazing artist!

btw-there are a few lines that have been printed out wrong on this page-the 2nd line should say:and will when it gets comprimised. and then another one that says:you can find me, if you ever want again.:)

i love this song... but i have a question about it...

in the liner notes for 'heavier things' there's that diagram for "suggested target points" and for wheel it points to the leg... does anyone have any idea what that could symbolize or have to do with the song? i was looking at the liner notes today, and i started wondering and couldn't think of a good reason for why john chose to say this song targets the leg.

so yeah. :D i was reading all the other comments and didn't see that anyone had brought this up before, so i just wanted to see what people think about this...

This song means so much to me. It think it explains life: people- they come and go, as does everything. Life is a Wheel, and that's how it turns. We cannot turn back the clock, and we need to deal with it. The lyric, which has been commented on quite a lot, and rightly so, 'I believe that my life's gonna see, the love I give, returned to me', provides me with hope. I haven't had a lot of luck with love, but I know it will come to me one day. Thank you...

I think that this song in particular of his is a way to live your life. I truly believe that the line " believe that my life's gonna see, the love I give, returned to me' can speak for us all. Never think you love too much and if the person you love doesnt love you back, someone else will. " and i wont be the first to love her" and " no you wont be the last to love me" speak so deeply to anyone who feels alone or hurt, that theres always love waiting to be given and recieved.

This is one of my most favorite songs of all time! Beautiful melody and metaphorical lyrics. This song sends an inspiring message that the things in your life are just a season. Even though times may be rough it is all part of life's cycle and as John hints love, happiness, success, etc. may be just "around the bend." When faced with life's everyday refer to my favorite line, "its just a season thing."

My wife sent me this CD when I got deployed. This song and Clarity were (and are) my favourite songs on the disc (and possibly of any JM song). I don't think this song is sad, necessarily. I think it's tender, and it's about hope, and that's what gets me.

"And if you never stop when you wave goodbye, you just might find, if you give it time, you might wave hello again" This is probably one of my favourite lines of all time. It's saying that you might be sad at parting, or if you suffer loss, but the way things work out, when one person walks out of your life, another walks in. I love that message of hope.

I also LOVE the guitar solo in this song. It's just as tender as the lyrics are.

i hear this song and i think of my ex .. i loved her so much....but it just didn't work out.

"And you won't be the first
No you won't be the first
To love me "

these words hit me hard because although she said i was her "one" , it was never real and i think these words resonate with me - i'm yet to find that person who will actually love me unconditionally ... this song give me chills ... :(

The line about his love returning to him is probably a driect reference to the Beatles' "The End." The last line of that song is, "And in the end/the love you take/is equal to the love you make."

Anyone else see that?
