  General Comment:LOL @ people arguing about whether this song is about masturbation or about a breakup when it is clearly about BOTH. The Darkness frequently use double entendres and humorous wordplay in their lyrics to give a funny edge to their songs. Anyone who's listened to more than one of the band's tracks knows this. Justin Hawkins (singer/lyricist) is saying that now that he's left this girl he is "holding his own" - he means this both literally (he has to play with his own d**k since the girl isn't there to have sex with him) and figuratively (keeping it together emotionally despite the sadness of the breakup).

  General Comment:This song is about masturbation, but to me it's always been an anthem for the sweet release of getting our of a long term relationship that you felt trapped under. I really connect to it with that meaning of a new found personal freedom.

  General Comment:I think this song, after weighing up the evidence, is about Flicking one off the wrist. Thats right, bashing the bishop. Banging out a mix. Whatever youre slang for masturbation, it still fits. if Ed Graham (drummer) said: 'Holding My Own is about wanking. But if you can look past that, its got a deeper meaning.' then yeah, i think thats a great indication that thats what its about...
  Yes this is also a love song without a doubt. normally we look at a love song and look for the dirty double entandre. with this song, the filth is clear to see, but we have to look deep for the actual love song.

  General Comment:A Kerrang! article from 2003 clearly stated that this song had more than one meaning, and the first one was of (SHOCK!!) MASTURBATION!!
  
  Oh and BlackShuck, A) how long have you listened to them for? and B) "Wanker" is a B-side that was released on the "One Way Ticket..." single.
