Good bad, Saturn makes your mind break in pieces
Good bad, so you cannot find the dimensions
and it will be around these spots that I've given to you
you will know that you'll greet my vapours every time that you pass through this room
pass through this room
walk through my gloom

Daphne you find me

Daphne, when you find me let the blood drive and come alive with me Daphne, symmetry you can't help but admire or rejoice from this
sister be bad, Saturn makes your mind break in pieces

Good bad, so you cannot find the conventions
it will be around these spots that I've given to you
you will know that you'll greet my vapours every time that you pass through this room
pass through this room
walk through my gloom

Daphne you find me

Daphne you find me to put you were inside you fight for my memory Daphne symmetry you can't help but admire or rejoice for this, seems to be
Daphne come as on display will you find a way to draw the curtains of damp around your blushing ambition

blushing ambition...

I found you inside my mind
I lost you inside my mind
I found you inside my mind
I lost you inside my mind

I was a child I was a vice a coyote, conditions occasions facts
I was a child I was a vice a coyote, conditions occasions facts

erase them all perhaps
erase them all
erase them all perhaps
my own thing, my own thing

now you're all that I have here
now we can't remember
but you could fall back on lust when you've learnt to wait
they can be like the friends and neighbours you will get to appreciate them

I have inside me some strange glow
still enjoying this that's why I made a mess
still enjoying this that's why I made a mess
that's why I made a mess

General Comment:I feel that SteelyDanforever's interpretation is pretty spot on about a guy committing suicide over discovering that the girl, Daphne, has been in a relationship with someone else.

I think Daphne's been cheating on him. Something interesting to think about: "Been bad, Saturn breaks your mind into pieces/Been bad, so you cannot find the dimensions" - the use of Saturn in this line may be because of it's meaning in astrology. Saturn is associated with things such as boundaries, restrictions, limits, responsibilities, discipline and the endurance of these elements during difficult times. It's supposed to represent someone reliable, patient, and someone more invested in something long-term and stable. When he says "Saturn breaks your mind into pieces", perhaps he thinks that Daphne has been irresponsible and that she's frustrated with the idea of having to settle down just for him (especially if their relationship has been kind of rocky). She ignored the "dimensions", or limits of their relationship by cheating on him with someone else.

He wants Daphne to discover his dead body, and every time she walks into the room, she'll be breathing and moving amongst his spirit and the sadness he experienced over her. He says you "can't help but admire what a choice room this used to be", the bedroom, I'm guessing, because by this he means it is a place they both shared and have many sentimental feelings over.

When he says "when you find me, let the blood drive and come and lie with me/Daphne, symmetry..." - When she sees him, he hopes that she'll see the "spots that he's given to her", blood, and come back to him realizing the consequence of her actions.

What I'm curious about is this line: "Daphne you find me to put you were inside use that for my memory"... why the use of "to put you were"? It really confuses me because of how strange it sounds. Anyways, in this part of the song he's sort of asking "is my death the one thing that will finally get you to stop?" That is, assuming if "damp" is what he really says (because "damp" can mean shock, sadness, suffering, and that would definitely work here; if it just means "wet", it could be blood). The blushing ambition is her unfaithfulness, again.

I'm not sure about the "I found you/I lost you" part. Perhaps his idea or impression of her kept shifting because of how untrustworthy she was? Either way, in the next part, he's feeling sorry for how he's been. He was acting kind of childish or reacting kind of foolishly or obsessively ("conditions, locations, facts) to her cheating, probably making things worse. She now has the option to forgive and forget.

Now that he's gone, all that he has with him is the memory of her, but now they can no longer remember the way they used to. She'll soon start to forget, but he says "you could fall back on lust when you've learned to wait", meaning that she still should think carefully about who she chooses to be with, and learn to appreciate the person (much like you would with friends and neighbors) before just simply being lustful.

SteelyDanforever brings up an interesting point about the last part. I'm not sure if he's hoping to torment her. Perhaps he wanted to end things before they got any worse, so that he could still enjoy it? Or maybe the strange glow could be some kind of epiphany that helped him come to terms with the decision to kill himself. Judging by the rest of the lyrics it just doesn't seem like he would try to torment her, just get her to change her ways. I don't know, does he really seem that vicious...?

General Comment:Here are the corrected lyrics:

Been bad, Saturn makes your mind break in pieces
Been bad, so you cannot find the dimensions
and it will be around these spots that I've given to you
you will know that you'll breathe my vapors every time that you pass through this room
    pass through this room
    walk through my gloom

    Daphne, you find me

Daphne, when you find me, let the blood drive and come and lie with me
Daphne, symmetry, you can't help but admire what a choice room this used to be
bad, Saturn makes your mind break in pieces

Been bad, so you cannot find the dimensions
it will be around these spots that I've given to you
you will know that you'll breathe my vapors every time that you pass through this room
    pass through this room
    walk through my gloom

    Daphne, you find me

Daphne you find me to put you were inside use that for my memory
Daphne symmetry you can't help but admire what a choice room this used to be
Daphne come as on display; will you find a way to draw the curtains of damp around your blushing ambition?

    Blushing ambition...

I found you inside my mind
I lost you inside my mind
I found you inside my mind
I lost you inside my mind

I was a child I was a vice a coyote, conditions locations facts
I was a child I was a vice a coyote, conditions locations facts

    Erase them all perhaps
    erase them all
    erase them all perhaps
my own thing, my own thing

Now you're all that I have here
    now we can't remember
but you could fall back on lust when you've learnt to wait
they can be like the friends and neighbors you will get to appreciate them

I have inside me some strange glow
I'm still enjoying this, that's why I made a mess
I'm still enjoying this, that's why I made a mess
    that's why I made a mess.

General Comment:I concur with needle13 in that SteelyDanforever's correction is correct. To me, Banks does not seem to be saying, "rejoice from this sister be bad," at least not in the first verse. I think he is saying, "what a choice room this used to be," or "what a choice room this seems to be", or even possibly, "what a choice room this is to be." Listen again with good headphones and follow with the lyrics in front of you.

General Comment:I really like SteelyDanforever's interpretation.

Esp when you take in account 'these spots that i've given you' as blood splattered.

General Comment:Here's my take, not sold completely on it, but it's worth hazarding:

The song on the whole is about a girl who is a little prude-ish and is attracted or involved with a "bad boy" type.

"Goodbad, saturn makes your mind break in pieces."
This is the most intriguing and far-fetched one to me. I take it as a vow of marriage. Saturn has a ring, and the promises of marriage break this girl down a little.

"Good bad, so you cannot find the conventions"
her morals, etc. I think the whole GoodBad thing is their relationship.

    "Daphne symmetry"
She is perfect by traditional standards, but symmetry is boring. Most things that are really pleasing are asymmetrical.

"will you find a way to draw the curtains of damp around your blushing ambition"
kind of a crude interpretation from me but I see it as 'hey, if you're lustful, can you really keep your legs closed?'"

    Just a few guesses.
