Lyrics for Lover's Spit as interpreted by fallacies

Lover's Spit Lyrics
All these people drinking lover's spit
They sit around and clean their face with it
And they listen to teeth to learn how to quit
Tied to a night they never met

You know it's time
That we grow old and do some shit
I like it all that way

All these people drinking lover's spit
Swallowing words while giving head
They listen to teeth to learn how to quit
Better take some hand and get used to it

You know it's time
That we grow old and do some shit
I like it all that way

I hate to break it to you guys, but BSS is not a 'gay' band. They really aren't even a band at all, really. They are a conglomerate of a number of canadian indie bands. Just because one person wrote a song about being gay doesn't mean that the other 16 people involved are. The songs were written by two different people, with different meanings.

I think it's a song about having meaningless relationships and one night stands and fucking strangers, and the singer is in a world where that basically is going on all around him, and he feels that it's time he "grew up" and found someone who having sex with has meaning past just getting off.

"All these people drinking lover's spit
They sit around and clean their face with it"

Everyone just fucking, giving head, getting nasty and doing it night in night out.

"And they listen to teeth to learn how to quit
Tied to a night they never met..."

Teeth is just about biting when sucking dick I guess, the second line is more meaningful, it talks about how even though they fucked someone, the night itself was forgetten and meaningless.

"You know its time that we grow old and do some shit
I like it all that way
I like it all that way..."

Time for him to grow up and find someone who matters to him to start a relationship with, or possibly him telling his friend "we need to stock fucking party girls and find quality girls to date".

"All these people drinking lover's spit
Swallowing words while giving head"

Swallowing words = they may not even care much for the person, they don't bother telling them though they just want to fuck.

"They listen to teeth to learn how to quit
Take some hands and get used to it..."

Love this song. I gotta give props to BSS and Stars for their wonderful, original love songs that never contain the words "baby" or "babe." You know, those types of songs that you hear on the radio. If they ever did use filler words like that I would completely lose faith in them.

Does anyone else feel in the beehives version after the piano ends before the lift like they are experiencing or witnessing an orgasm?

This song is beautiful.

But what I'd really like to know are the lyrics to what Kevin Drew sings at the end of the song when they perform it live. I've seen them twice now, and the ending to it is absolutely wonderful. I just don't know what they are singing =(

You people on the first page of this thread are some of the dumbest people ever. Firstly, this song is written by Kevin Drew. Secondly Kevin Drew is in the video of this song. THirdly, He is kissing a woman in the video. This woman is also his wife.......I think we can dedeuce from that information that "our lead is a homo" is an incorrect and ill-informed statement.

The song is obviously about swapping spit. " All these people" couldnt possibly make sense if you think that lovers spit is jizz. Not "all these people" have dicks.

Watch the video if you cant figure it out yourself. And yes feist's turn on this song is equally jizzmastic

the whole beauty of poetry is that it has more than one meaning. i can't believe you're all so focused on lover's spit being semen that you can't take it for it's common, colloquial meaning, a fight between two lovers. part of being in love is taking the bad with the good, and this song is about when there seems to be too much of the bad to make the good worthwhile. and about giving head, which we can remember refers to both fellatio and cunnilingus. if your girl doesn't give you some "lover's spit" when you go down on her, you're not doing it right.

I have nothing to add except a fight is a "Lover's Spat" not a "Lover's Spit." In this case spat isn't the past tense of spit, it's an American linguistic invention, imitative of the words "smack and slap."

And knowing is half the battle.

I really don't think a song this beautiful could possibly be about anything as superficial as some here have suggested. if you're stuck on the homosexuality thing, just listen to the Beehives version, sung by Emily Haines. it applies perfectly to either gender.

not that the original isn't good, but leslie feist is the goddess that makes a great work a masterpiece.
and, yes, jaccck, it's orgasmic in the best way possible: auditorily.

Ought to be about breaking up. The title suggests that--sounds like lovers split. Lover's spit seems to relate to kissing. To describe it that way, though, ought to say something like "who needs it?"; the kind of thing you might want to say if you had broken up and felt depressed. I took the line about "shit" to refer to heroin...that is, through with love and going to use a drug to help me accept the world. I can't believe the song's about head...when he talks about that he uses the word. Besides that, just listen to the music. I know it's subjective...but does anyone think it would sound that way if it were just about fellation? I suppose it could be gay, but it seems to makes just as much sense if taken as referring to the dissolute habits of rock musicians. I don't see how the lyrics can refer to a stable relationship with a wife, but they could represent a contrast to such a relationship.

Amazing that people still think about it after so many years. What a great song!
