Lyrics for Cause = Time as interpreted by fallacies

Cause = Time Lyrics
You come in, check my time
You for fornication crimes
I've seen your hope on television
Where you've been, you were not were
They've got tricycles in skirts
This is a mouth that needs religion

And they all want to love the cause
'Cause they all need to be the cause
They all want to fuck the cause

So take me down, down through this
Kill the common law that missed
This is the blood I love to share

Little pistols and companion halls
Desperation tentacles
I've been alone since '89

We've got a menstruating disguise
Then know three completes the five
This is a church that should believe

And they all want to free the cause
'Cause they all need to dream a cause
They all need to be a cause

You've got all and it's
Pretty good, but I
Seem to be in disbelief

You come in, check my time
You've got fornication crimes
I've seen your death on television
Cue immortal child like times
Separation is divine
Here is a strike beneath your knees

And they all want to love the cause
'Cause they all need to be the cause
They all want to fuck the cause

Take me down, down through this
Kill the white within the bliss
Here is a waiting room
That wants to save your life

And they all want to love the cause
They all need to be the cause
They all want to dream a cause
They all need to fuck the cause

i think the whole song is about organized belief in general.. and how organized belief such as religions and political factions can lead to formation of cults or cult-like followings in society.. references to the chruch and military/political factions are found throughout the song: "little pistols, companion halls, desperation tentacles, i've been alone since '89" this seems to be about the end of the cold war in '89 with the taking down of berlin wall and the following "fall of communism".. lines like "this is a mouth that needs religion, kill the common law that missed, seperation is divine" criticizing how organized religion are becoming too involved in government.. the line "theyve got tricycles and skirts" is about how childish all this commotion over belief in religion or political stances has become.. and lines like "you come in and check my time, youve got fornication crimes" talks about how hypocritical fundamentalists can be..

I was reading over these lyrics and i was thinking that since most people thing this is about priests sexually assaulting children, the one line "We've got a mentruating disguise" it also sounds like "We've got a man straight in disguise" I think that makes more sense. Since they mostly assaulted boys to my knowledge. Just an idea.

This song is about trying to be something or live for a cause (whether it be religion or whatever). He sees people breaking down trying to change themselves for what they think is better, but it feels unnatural at first and is sometimes misguided.

i read every single comment here and i agree mostly with hooever said that there are multiple meanings. this is an amazing song and is proof how music can confuse so many people and make us think so much, and love it even more. i was talking to my friend about the music i like, and all she said was no one knows that and how she loves other music like shakira and things and my music sucks. well i think broken social scene is an amazing type of music, because they talk about REAL issues like religion, and life in general. what i thnk is that they wrote this song TO CONFUSE us. they knew we were going to debate about it, and i think they just want it to tihnk it means whatever we want it to. i love the meaning of god's point of view, posted by kevdoggincident. i think he/she makes an amazing point. that is what i want to believe the song is about and i will stick to that. yes, everyone else has good points but as i said, i think bss wants us to believe what we wnt to, since this song can be about so many things.

Jesus Jones have you fuckers lost your damned minds??????
Priests touching boys? You think they would write a song about that? youre a bunch of pricks if you honestly think that.
The lyrics never say anything like that

its talking about a group of people wanting to jump on a glory train of some sort hence the chorus

i think when he says "this is a church that needs to believe" and the line about " this is a mouth that needs religion" are awesome and that they have nothing to do with the catholic church. a church/religion can just be a group of people wo all believe in the same thing. ask kevin drew yourself though if you really wanna know

I see all the religious references, they are pretty blatant. But this song means even more to me. Whenever I listen to this song I just thing about "they all need to be the cause, they all want to fuck the cause". To me, it serves as a general portrayal of how the "cause", meaning good deeds, many organized religions, charity has become exploited. The need to be part of a "cause" seems many times to be just a selfish need to be associated with something or prove that you are better or more righteous than others.

i agree with the person who said something along the lines of "none of you are remotely close"
the lyrics seems to rise the same idea that sparked rumi's quote "people who repress desires often turn, suddenly, into hypocrites"
whomever said it was strictly about the issues of molestation in the catholic church provoked the feeling inside me one gets right before they throw up.
i could go on regarding the intricacies of this song that make it brilliant but i'm not. I'm just going to say that it is and for what its worth quote my favorite line(s)...
"This is a mouth that needs religion". Yes.
"Desperation tentacles...
I've been alone since '89" right on.

There are a lot of weirdos on here. I read all these theories because I really like the song. The lyrics have always intrigued me. I really think this song is about how the powers that be (governments, institutions, religions, etc) through all time have ruled by dictating a cause to the common people. And, in turn, the people all seem to need the cause even though the "powers that be" are constantly getting caught in their hypocrisy.

This song is destined to be a zeitgeist anthem, in the tradition of "Purple Haze" and "Smells Like Teen Spirit." Twenty years from now, in movies taking place during the first decade of the 21st century, don't be surprised if you hear this song played during a montage.

i mean seriously "'Cause they all need to be the COS"
its so obvious, i mean who dosent want to bill cosby
im just kidding
ive pretty much came to the same conclusion about this song as everyone else, the catholic preist child molestation thing. if you read the lyrics and think sexually, it really comes together

Maybe that line about fornication crimes and then seen it on TV is a reference to televangelist like Billy Swaggart who are are holy and then get caught up in sex scandals and exposed. Could go along with that sort of repressing feels other people talked about. Like Freud said, if you repress some desire you have it may be expressed as the opposite I forget what it's called... Reaction Formation Theory? So ie. if you are a skeezy guy you may deal with it by being outwardly chaste/a religious figure.

This song is absolutely about the church and is more specifically a knock at the Catholic Church and priest hood. that much is evident. Does anyone know what "3 completes the five means"?

"so take me down, down through this
kill the common law that missed
this is the blood I love to share"
and then "I've been alone since 89"

The only thing I can think of for this is if you look up common law marriage its stated that in Texas a new provision was added to the Family Code; either partner in a common law marriage has two years after separation to file an action in order to prove that the common law marriage existed. To use the provision, you must have been separated after September 1, 1989. I think it relates to that, maybe not Texas specifically but the law in general.
