In the veins of the ultraviolet light,
The phosphor is starting a fire
Shooting up in the iodine;
Its turning on

Rupture the wall around my heart
I feel so lost,
I've been shaking. you can't save me
(forget what the doctor said)
Every bird in mid-flight is calling out your name
Before it hits the window and it sings the rapture

Without a second opinion
The chemicals saturate
To counteract the code
Through the double-helix we are twisting
(too scared to let this go)
Someone call the head nurse
She's coming to the capitol
To wrap us up and throw us in the dirt, with a dream that's turning off

Rupture the wall around my heart
I feel so lost,
I've been shaking. you can't save me
(forget what the doctor said)
Every bird in mid-flight is calling out your name
Before it hits the window and it sings the rapture

We're coming to the capitol [Repeat: x2]
The distance between us will rupture
Coming to the capitol
In our hearts the disease wont touch us
Coming to the capitol

Love, now its too late
(love) to turn this off
Alone is all we are
Even when we we feel this close
It's just a lie we believe

These are the words that escape from our lungs,
Rupture the wall I've built around my heart
I've been shaking
You can't save me
I'm turning off
We can't find a way
Out of this moment
Were lost in a dark hallway

General Comment:the first few lines are about a tv turning on with the phospher shooting into the iodine but i think the friend dying works for the rest rupture the wall is more about opening up your heart than it is about war

General Comment:I definately agree with what everyone else has said, that the song was a way for him to deal with his friend dying and maybe just try to connect with him. He keeps making references like "you can't save me...I'm turning off". He makes it sound like he is the one with the disease but maybe he is just telling how his friends illness affected him, to the point it felt like he was dying.

Like what I Heart Thursday says, I think when Geoff referes to "the capitol" means the hospital.
    "Someone call the head nurse.
    She's coming to the capitol
To wrap us up and throw us in the dirt
With a dream that's turning off."
Obviously that means death, like even the nurse trying to help can't do anything.

"We are coming to the capitol.
The distance between us will rupture.
In our hearts the disease will touch us"
That could mean like when Geoff visits his friend in the hospital, it finally brings them together.

General Comment:'without a second opinion' could be a reference to turning off a life supprt machine, in order for passive euthanasia to happen two doctors must agree on it. this would fit with the repition of 'turning off' and references to a critically ill friend
'we are coming to the capital' i agree with vtmatt that this is most likely to do with government, but could the capitol be a metaphor for the dying person maybe?

General Comment:I can't believe there are so little comments for this song. I don't really see the suicide refrences in the song. It's about dealing with his friend dying but yet I don't get how the line "Were coming to the capitol" have to do with anything. Could the capitol mean the place you go where you die? Or the hospital room?...

General Comment:the very first time i heard this song, before i ever heard geoffs explination of it, the music and the sound of geoff's voice (specifically "without a second opinion... dream thats turning off") really gave me the impression that he was lost in a sort of gauntlett or hallway being battered, perhaps with tortured thoughts. more than any song i've ever heard, the music really conveys the emotion of this song. this is some of the most intelegent music i have ever heard.
