Lyrics for Heart Still Beats as interpreted by dceffex

Heart Still Beats Lyrics
The girl in the alley kneels with exhaustion
She's guarded by the skinny guy who limps from some infection
Behind a veil of bleached thin hair her eyes tell a story
Like a photo of Berlin, December 1944
She's looking for a handout, she's been high for several weeks now
She's too far gone for whoring and the money just gave out

And her heart still beats inside
And the blood runs in her veins
A remnant of life remains
Her heart still beats inside

The man finally comes to the door, I've seen him several times
He always looks pissed off and his sunglasses stay on
I think he got his biceps and tattoos while in prison
And it doesnt seem to bother him when he says "go to hell"

And his heart still beats inside
The blood runs in his veins
A remnant of life remains
His heart still beats inside

The thought it comes to my mind, to somehow intervene
But it could bring me trouble, and what can I do anyway?
It's hard to be effective when it happens so often
To see a life unraveling, through drawn venetian blinds
I'm sickened by compassion, I'm stifled by my limitations
Anesthetic apathy, come take the pain away

And my heart still beats inside
The blood runs in my veins
A remnant of life remains
And my heart still beats inside

Oh God, we need you here
We're sinking fast and we dont care
The evidence is all around me, on both sides of my door
Our hearts beat

This definitley a wonderful song. Bs2 is a great band. Not just because of the artists but the songs. Th Light of Things hoped For is a very melancholic cd. That is very depressing, but in the end you see that the sun will rise on a brighter tommororw. It is kinda the depressed kids testimony. The one who makes it out. But this song just screams this at you. Well maybe not screams. But anyway beautiful song

I just listened to the uncensored version of this song.

WHY DID THEY CENSOR IT?!

It kicks so much more ass when they don't put stupid noises over the word "hell".

If anyone needs the meaning just say so and I'll type it up. I don't want to wast my time if nobody is gonna read it.

Yeah, clutter. I would read it. I already have my own ideas as to what this song probably means, but hearing yours would be interesting for me.

This song is a spur to evangelism. Basically, there are a lot of people out there that Christians may tend to overlook because of their outward appearance or location. At the end he feels so helpless because he feels like there is so much and he can only do so little, much like the Five Iron Frenzy song "Where 0 Meets 15."

I think StormTrooper74 is right, but I also think there is more to it.
I think it is about no matter how lost or sinful someone is, everyone is still human, and they need God whether they acknowledge it or not. And we have to see that, and evangelize to people.

I find it interesting the contrast of the first and second verses. The first shows someone clearly in despair because of how sin has affected her life. In the second verse, the man would not say he needed God or anyone else. He's tough, independent. The third verse is seeing these people, and knowing what to do, but hiding behind apathy and excuses. The final chorus about his own heart is how he needs God as well, and I think also that the other people are just like him. No one is so far gone in sin for Christ to forgive, and we must not judge people but have compassion on them because we are the same.

Like Brandon said, the song demonstrates that we are all the same. In the beginning, it talks about the girl and how she's made a few mistakes, but she's still human and we shouldn't think any less of her. Then the same with the guy in the second verse-- he's made a few mistakes but that's okay. We must remember that these people are still people like us.

But then the last verse says that the author thinks about stopping these things from happening, but what could he do anyway? And that's the mistake he made. But he's still a person just like us.

We're all failing miserably at this life thing and the only one who can save us is God. ("Oh God, we need you here We're sinking fast and we dont care The evidence is all around me, on both sides of my door")
