I fuckin love this song, I love Tom's voice in it, I love how their voices clash and sound amazing together, and I love the direction they went and how it's totally different from anything else they've done, yet still amazing.
I think it's one of those times where maybe some of the lyrics have special meaning, but Mark and Tom mostly just put things together because they sounded good. The lyrics don't really mean much to me, but the song as a whole does somehow. Not sure how.

To me, it kinda sounds like maybe it's someone's ending relationship. It kinda sounds like a couple broke up and someone got a rebound. As Tom says "I got no regret right now," that to me sounds like "Hey.. I don't give a fuck about the other chick anymore and now, I'ma go bone this one."
And maybe the chorus represents him thinking about to his last girl, along with the bridge? I don't know, I'm just throwing some shit out there that's on my mind.
Another perspective would be, maybe someone got a fuck buddy over the summer and the girl finally realizes it wasn't a true relationship so that's where "Fate fell short this time, your smile fades in the summer" and at the end when tom starts going "are we alone, can you feel it? so lost and disilluisioned" maybe that's him saying, well maybe I do love her and I should stay with her?
