Lyrics for I Miss You as interpreted by mike

I Miss You Lyrics
Hello there, the angel from my nightmare
the shadow in the background of the morgue
the unsuspecting victim of darkness in the valley
we can live like Jack and Sally if we want
where you can always find me
we'll have Halloween on Christmas
and in the night we'll wish this never ends
we'll wish this never ends

(I miss you, miss you)
(I miss you, miss you)

Where are you and I'm so sorry
I cannot sleep, I cannot dream tonight
I need somebody and always
this sick strange darkness
comes creeping on so haunting every time
and as I stared I counted
webs from all the spiders
catching things and eating their insides
like indecision to call you
and hear your voice of treason
will you come home and stop this pain tonight
stop this pain tonight

Don't waste your time on me you're already
the voice inside my head (I miss you, miss you)
don't waste your time on me you're already
the voice inside my head (I miss you, miss you)

Don't waste your time on me you're already
the voice inside my head (I miss you, miss you)
don't waste your time on me you're already
the voice inside my head (I miss you, miss you)

Don't waste your time on me you're already
the voice inside my head (I miss you, miss you)
don't waste your time on me you're already
the voice inside my head (I miss you, miss you)

(I miss you, miss you)
(I miss you, miss you)
(I miss you, miss you)
(I miss you, miss you)

I would say this song is about a person's girlfriend passing away, and how he is dealing with that. I base this on the morbidity of the first verse. The second verse is basically the person laying in bed trying to sleep, and praying to the person that died.

"like indecision to call you
and hear your voice of treason"

This is basically him trying to pray to her, and the treason would be her going over to the side of the dead and not the living anymore.

The chourus is just saying to "dont worry about me anymore let your soul be free, I will always remember you"

i think it's maybe the relationship that's dead and not the actual partner, the rest is reminiscing of fonder times

I'm addicted to this song. I think I have to agree with Buga about the meaning of the song, well, that's how I interpret it as well.

I think it's about the relationship being dead too. I mean you can make an arguement either way. But I'm leaning towards the relationship being dead, not the person.

I agree that the song being about the death of the person. The lyrics are very serious and morbid. As far as the reference to Jack and Sally, I think they are alluding to Tim Burton's "The Nightmare Before Christmas." The two main characters are named Jack and Sally, and the premise of the movie is about celebrating Christmas on Halloween. Although the lyric is reversed, I think that is the overall idea. This helps the death of the person theory. In the movie, Jack and Sally are "dead" in a manner of speaking, and they live in a very dark place. Maybe he is even contemplating suicide. It's really hard to say, but that is my opinion.

She's not dead! If she's dead, how could he have "indecision to call you and hear your voice of treason"? They broke up and he feels betrayed and doesn't want her back "Don't waste your time on me", but he still has a dependency on her "you're already the voice inside my head".

i think he calls it treason because he feels she abandoned him by dying

"will you come home and stop this pain tonight
stop this pain tonight "

he misses her and wants the pain of her being dead to go away, and for her to return to him so it is like old times

Regos,
The "indecision to call you" part I interpret as someone who has shaky faith in God and feels silly in talking to thin air, but his feelings for this girl were so strong he wants to pray anyway just to be able to talk to her in some way. This shows the desperation of the singer.

I think she is dead mainly due to the first verse:

"Hello there, the angel from my nightmare"
He is dreaming about her death, thus a nightmare, but she is still in the dream; his angel.

"the unsuspecting victim of darkness in the valley"
Perhaps the way she died?

"we can live like Jack and Sally if we want
where you can always find me
we'll have Halloween on Christmas
and in the night we'll wish this never ends
we'll wish this never ends"
The reference to the nightmare before Christmas is obvious. Thus supporting the dead theory as stated by weezer geek.

Bugalou,
I always assumed that the "angel from my nightmare" line was about how their relationship saved him from loneliness or depression and that that makes him feel worse about breaking up. What you say sounds right, but I still don't understand "don't waste your time on me" if she's dead.

maybe he's thinking that she's trying to contact him somehow, and he wants her to go on to wherever. so he's telling her to move on and he'll always remember her.

I think you guys are reading too much into the song, trying to find things to interpret that don't need it. And wth @ this video being weird? No way.

i really, really dig this song. i think it's a cool departure from their older singles, and the video is insanely cool. as far as the references to the nightmare before christmas (which, for those who do not know, is about how the king of halloweenland grows tired of his duties and attempts to replace santa claus on christmas, majorly kick ass movie that everyone should see) and angels and morgues, i honestly and truly believe that they are just trying to be dark. the whole pop punk bubble gum kid thing is out, and dark and introspective is in. case in point: alkaline trio appearing on conan o'brian and david letterman. yes, it seems death is in, and so blink-182 followed suit, so they could "mature" and "grow as artists." but shit, i'm not complaining, i think this is one of the best songs they've ever released. the only thing that annoys me is the way mark is constantly shafted of vocal duties. the first verse is amazing and the choruses (which tom sings) sound great. the second verse is just painfully bad. well until the end when mark kicks in with that bitchin "stop this pain tonight" back-up, which then catapults into the hella-bitchin chorus. i think mark should have sung both verses. i think he gets shafted in much the same manner during "stay together for the kids." i mean, when i first heard that song, i was like holy shit, this is amazing. then mark got like another 30 seconds of singing time, and the rest was tom's whiney, annoying chorus ad nauseum. again, tom can be okay when used the right way, like in the chorus of this song for instance. a little ranty? perhaps, but that's what i thought. go listen to the lawrence arms.

I believe Jack an Sally refers to living in a perfect relationship, or like Jack and Dianne from that song by john cougar. sounds almost like Love Cate by the Cure.

it also seems like the girl is trying to get the guy back but hes being stubborn for no reason and cant find a way to appologize

great song lyrically, and the first half is amazing how they fit the lyrics with the music, the last half is poorly put together, plus its repetitive. still a good song though

weerez guy // i think your idea of the alluding to the nightmare before christmas is very interesting ...

the line about "jack and sally" is supposedly about travis and his chick -according to the cd's booklet-.... but i dont buy that for one second

I think he [mark] is saying to his girl means"we can live like 'them' if thats what you want"

this song means a lot to me, it's one of my favorite songs, and the first verse is used as "our song" for my bf and I. no one has put this yet, so I suppose I'll write it. The first verse was written by mark, and describes how love shines brighter and is more significant then the environment around it. the line "we can live like jack and sally" was added because of an infatuation with "the nightmare before christmas", a story with a perfectly matched couple.
the second verse was written by tom. it doesn't exactly make as much sence as the first verse. you could say how the song relates to death, but its the death of the relationship. the metaphorical boy misses the girl, he wishes the relationship was alive again. darkness tortures him, and he wishes he once had the storytale he once had.

I think this is a really deep song.I mean Blink 182 didnt really worte songs that had much meaning untill tis album came along. And to luvlyss23, it say in the cd booklet that the part in the 1st verse about 'Jack and Sally' is directed towards Travis and his wife Shanna. Why they chose those names im not sure but thats all it says.I still think this is a really great song

anyone who has seen nightmare before christmas, directed by tim burton will understand the jack and sally reference. anyone who has any music taste will understand how much it sucks said reference was used. translation: nightmare before christmas rocked, this song sucks. its time to end your career if your reduced to stealing movie lines and characters to pump up boring songs. suttle? subtle even? oh please let this song represent MY relationship. and please, please never ever compare the cure to blink 182. if robert smith was dead, he'd be turning in his grave.

new trend = listen to low fi unsigned indie bands that sound like the 70's/80's , be a teen and complain about mtv and the radio .. i got this song before it aired on either and the cd before . tired of trendy oldschool teenie boppers talkign crap . Youre not smart , we know mtv destroys a lot of abnds image and the radio over plays music but to tell us this and sware we dont know is just showing us how fuckign retarded youa ctually are to figure this out now . i know youre a fetus but come on , shut the fuck up already . anyhow , very painful song . the whole cd is a mjor improvement but i did like the old blink cause i was younger and it suited my flighty fun life . now though , the whole cd is mature and it seems like it suits them well . they will eb around much long .. despite what new trendy anti teenies say ... o yeh , to the new trendy anti teenie , YOUR LOW FI MUSIC SUCK DONKEY BALLS . artisitc integrity my asshole , they couldnt sell out if they tried cause obviously nobody can stand their copy cat formula of the oldschool .. oldschool is respected , not newschool that copied the oldschool = shit ...
