You took the car, it was my favorite one
Little white Dart, and drove it to Idaho
You took the rug, red-and-white checkerboard
Rolled it right up and took it to Idaho

[Chorus:]
You left me nothing
You left me nothing
Johnny Sunshine

You took the horse, it was a thoroughbred
Saddled it up out on the interstate
You took my kid, it was my only one
Smart little bitch, and drove her to Idaho

[Chorus: x2]

You took the house, you went and changed the locks
Now I am stuck living out of a box
You took my car, it was my favorite one
Little white Dart, and drove it to Idaho

[Chorus]

General Comment:Are these lyrics correct? Cause I'm hearing different lines. Like something about "You killed the cat. Put it in antifreeze" or something of the like?

General Comment:A long-term couple ends up separating. Her perfect man, her ray of light, Johnny Sunshine, leaves her and takes everything. It's serious, but not serious. It uses some humor (he kills the cat?!?) but also some real things (he takes the car).

In the end, we are left questioning whether the couple loved each other, or they just grew dependent of each other. She doesn't care about him not being around, does she? Nope. Just all of her stuff. She says she's alone, but only after all of her stuff is taken! Hahaha!

It's like, "Why leave? Our stuff is already set up here!?!?"

General Comment:It obviously has nothing to do with material loss as the result of a break up so Liz must be referring to the spiritual loss? As we know in most cases, the wife typically gets the lion's share of the loot in divorce settlements. The song more reminds of a scenarior of two folks living together (ie common law marriage) and the ol man decides to hop in a big ol yellow taxi cab and go out for the permanent milk run.

General Comment:all about salt in the wound, insult to injury, that sort of thing. it wasn't bad enough to completely abandon her, he had to take everything she held dear along with him. one of my favorites of hers.
