I bet you fall in bed too easily
With the beautiful girls who are shyly brave
And you sell yourself as a man to save
But all the money in the world is not enough

I bet you've long since passed understanding
What it takes to be satisfied
You're like a vine that keeps climbing higher
But all the money in the world is not enough
And all the bridges blown away keep floating up

Its cold
And rough
And I kept standing 6'1"
Instead of 5'2"
And I loved my life
And I hated you

Its cold, out there
And rough
And I kept standing 6'1"
Instead of 5'2"
And I loved my life
And I hated you

Phair said that the songs were about Exile on Mainstreet. (She also said that she used Exile on Mainstreet as a way to align her songs.) This song does "match" up to "Rocks Off". "Rocks Off" is about a guy who "only gets his rocks off when he is sleeping". Compare that with Phair's statement, "I bet you fall in bad too easily with..." and "I bet you've long past understanding what it takes to be satisfied."

Every song on exile in guyville is mirroring a song on Exile on Main Street by The Rolling Stones. Take a look at: songmeanings.net/lyric.php

This song is a reply to it.

she's 5'2". the song is not really about that. in exile in guyville, she writes a lot of songs about fucked up men and fucked up relationships. this song is about a situation where in she has this guy who thinks he's all that, so tall and wonderful but she knows more than that. so she reduces him, dissects him for who he is.

hahah this is mad-feminist. I love it. It's about these guys who treat women like playthings, and put them in low chauvinistic places. But there Liz Phair is, standing 6'1" because she's standing up like a man, or in a man's place, instead of settling for who and what she's expected to be just because she's female... 5'2"

Do you think it's because he was 6'1"? She was trying to reach up to him. I love the lines "And I loved my life / And I hated you."

Also, how good is the line "the beautiful girls who are shyly brave"??

Also I agree what everyone has said - she's reducing him, swapping the roles around. This guy's a player, and he sells himself 'as a man to save' - pretends he's all sensitive with issues and needs to be looked after, but really he's just someone that uses that act to get attention from women and eventually he fucks them over.

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.
