Lyrics for Grenade Jumper as interpreted by ruben

Grenade Jumper Lyrics
My heart ticks in beat with these kids that I grew up with.
living like life's going out of style.
You came to watch us play...like a "Big shot talent,"
but at the end of the day you know where we come from
and where we call home.

Hey Chris, you were our only friend.
I know this is belated, but we love you back.

They'll say it's not worth it.
So we'll leave this town in ruin.
living like life's going out of style.
You came to watch us play...like a "Big shot talent,"
but at the end of the day you know those busted lips
we take back home.

I know you would be there either way.
I'm so glad it seems like these times will never fade.
So I'll tell everyone how much this means to me.

really nice song... I think this song is about appreciating those friends who were there for the band from the start.. "I know you would be there either way." Regardless of how "big" the band was. I think theyre trying to show just how important their support was, and just because they have thousands of fans now doesnt mean theyve forgotten their true friends.

a good friend of mine who also loves fob informed me that chris was an old friend and supporter of their band, and it's awesome that such a great band would tribute a song to the close friends showing they won't let getting big go to their heads

Less Than Jake, whose drummer co-owns Feuled By Ramen, the label that Fall Out Boy started on, specializes in "this song is about this dude I know, and he rocks" songs. they have at least one on almost all their albums (if not all). I think the tempo they chose to take this song at is perfect.

You all talk about how it's cool that they haven't let the "popularity" get to their head, but wasn't this on their first album? I'm sure they weren't that popular yet when they made the song, so im not so sure about that theory, but it's a great song none the less

I don't think Chris died in the war. I don't know if anyone else has actually watched the DVD that came with their acoustic CD My Tongue Will Always Be The B-Side To My Heart, but in the perfomance section there is a live acoustic performance by FOB. This is the first song they play, and they literally play this song to Chris who is present at the performance and on the DVD footage...and very much alive. The guy who was taping the performance kept putting the camera on Chris while they were playing the song, and every time he did, Chris would flip him off and point to the band, like, "Film them, not me." That DVD is really good, btw.

I think chris was maybe one of the band's road friends or whatever and h died or something. I think this line, "I know you would be there either way.
I'm so glad it seems like these times will never fade.
So I'll tell everyone how much this means to me," and the fact that this song is in the past tense proves my point that he may have died.

Good song either way.

to reply to hard core slacker's question about chris- he's the band's friend and is at their shows and often comes on stage (the one i went to last night this dude had to eat peanut butter and cereal from chris' arm pits to get fob to play another song). you can see him on the dvd that cam with "my heart will always be the b-sdie to my tounge" on the "performance" part, he's in all black and everyone looks at him during that song.

I've only recently started listening to FOB, but I loved Wentz and Hurley's old band Arma Angelus. Therefore, isn't it possible that 'hey chris' is Chris Guiterrez from Arma Angelus. After all, he would know 'where they came from, and where they call home'. Just a thought

This song is about their friend Hey Chris, who did play in Arma Angelus. He's not dead, the inspiration from this song is that one day they were like 'we should write a song to our fans' and at the time their only fan was Chris, so it would be like "hey chris, you were our only friend." He hangs out with them on tour and has a livejournal as posted above.

jenny182 - FOB has repeated many times they do NOT have a myspace. and as many people have said before, hey chris is very well alive, hahaha. he was at the warped tour for a couple of dates last week or something. anyway, i think it's awesome that they wrote a song like this. i think they didn't put him in the "thanks" section of take this to your grave, but who wants to be in the thank yous if you can have a song written about you?

"Therefore, isn't it possible that 'hey chris' is Chris Guiterrez from Arma Angelus[?]"
Very possible. True in fact.

dosedxbyyou--fall out boy *does* have a myspace. However, it is not maintaned by anyone in fall out boy and none of the individual members have their own myspaces.

For all the people out there with confusion as to what this song is about, let me clear it up for you...
This song is about if Fall Out Boy ever got famous, they'd remember where they came from and who their real friends are... "Hey Chris, you were our only friend..." That's the person they know they can trust through all the fame and success... There ya go.
