i think this song is about taking in the old with the new, keeping old ties that are important and also cherishing new friends that come along at different times and places in your life

yea i agree.. this song is really good. i think it means the same thing, going away, or being away from a loved one or a friend that lives far away. i love fob, not many people no about them.

yea i agree with most of what you guys said, it seems to be about being away from important friends/families and missing them.

"and my hands are tied to pages inked to bring you back" imply that they're keeping their loved ones in mind wherever they are by writing them... aww :)

"tonight the headphones will deliver you the words that i can't say" could mean their songs speak for them when the people the guys are close to listen to it, and they can't be there themselves to say it...

wow FOB just rock!

this was the first fall out boy song i heard ages ago, i never listened to their other music until a little while after that but i must have really liked this one at the time cuz' the other day i was playing through my old burnt cd's and this track was on *every* cd, ah way to go fall out boy, yoo r0ck!!!!!!!!

this song is really really good, it kinda made me a little sad, i know it's real late, but i just heard this song 3 days ago and i've had the cd since february, but i think this song is pretty much about being homesick, hint the name "homesick at space camp", but it explains that friends r golden, new ones and old ones, and ur home will always be home, but it's good to travel, and get in touch with new ppl also, friends last forever. that's what i think, i could be wrong. o well. fall out boy rocks!!

The title has almost nothing to do with the song, but the line "Tonight the headphones will deliver you the words that I can't say." is probably one of the best ever written.

The first verse is about him arriving in Chicago whilst a friend of the band has gone to California, and it's sensual as they are best friends, but non-convential cause of summat.

Then the headphones will say what he can't, as in he can't think of the words to say what he feels, but other lyrics can, and bring the friend back to Chicago.

Then all he wants is for him/her to come back to Chicago, and then he seems to give up one this friend who left, cause he thinks "new friends are golden"

That's what I think anyway!

Okay, when I first heard this song I thought it was cool, then the new cd came out and I was listening to that instead of the old, some stuff happened over the summer and I was glued to this song! It related to me sooo much. This was a kinda different side too, it wasn't about killing the girl that broke his heart.

"My smile's an open wound without you" ( best line ever)

"...and my hands are tied to pages inked to bring you back." (haha I'm attempting to bring someone back but he's too far away)

ultimately i believe this song is about missing someone, or being far away from them .. jus like the title says, homesick from space camp.. like he misses stuff and hes soo far away .. note "space" camp.. space is far away, and camp is usually far, jus a theory.

Like most great songs My favourite thing about this song is that it is so relatable, We don't need to know the exact person/people this song was written for, but we can each adapt it to our lives. We all miss someone, we all want to sing this to someone. That is what makes it so special for me.

first part--
he [pete] is going back home to chicago, and his friend [could be perceived as girl friend or best friend, you pick] is in cali. [the whole sensual and non-conventional line may lean closer to girl friend]

part two--
he cant write a letter well enough to express how he feels, so he is writing a song for him/her. im sure, to him, chichago to cali feels like a million miles away. tonight all he is thinking about is how much he misses that person.

part three--
he cant forget all the things he loves about the person. he cares about him/her becasue they were the first to believe in the band [or him] he cant get the person off his mind, so he/she is all he is writing or thinking about and he thinks that maybe if he writes soemthing powerful enough, he/she will come back.

part fourr--
he has decided to move on and his new friends are wonderfuly refreshing [golden]

i think this song is about him being on tour all the time and how he's so far away from all the people that matter to him and he knows that he can't show them how much he cares because he's so far away. but that he's also loves meeting all these fans that are so cool and how he's making new friends. and he doesn't want to let go of that. though i used this song to help with my problems when my two best friends that had saved me from doing some stupid stuff went away to college.

i think this song is absolutely freaking wonderful, and i pretty much agree with australianprincess and the song meaning
but how come the only fob songs with comments in the hundreds are stuff like dance,dance and sugar?
i mean, they rock and all but everything else is just as good so why isnt that getting recognition as well?!
