It's the disease of the age
It's the disease that we crave
Alone at the end of the rave
We catch the last bus home
Corporate America wakes
Coffee republic in case
We open the latch on the gate
Of the hole that we call our home
Protect me from what I want,
Protect me protect me
Maybe we're victims of fate
Remember when we'd celebrate
We'd drink and get high until late
And now we're all alone
Wedding bells ain't gonna chime
With both of us guilty of crime
And both of us sentenced to time
And now we're all alone
Protect me from what I want,
Protect me protect me
Protect me from what I want,
Protect me protect me
Protect me from what I want,
Protect me protect me
Protect me from what I want,
Protect me protect me
It's the disease that we crave
Alone at the end of the rave
We catch the last bus home
Corporate America wakes
Coffee republic in case
We open the latch on the gate
Of the hole that we call our home
Protect me from what I want,
Protect me protect me
Maybe we're victims of fate
Remember when we'd celebrate
We'd drink and get high until late
And now we're all alone
Wedding bells ain't gonna chime
With both of us guilty of crime
And both of us sentenced to time
And now we're all alone
Protect me from what I want,
Protect me protect me
Protect me from what I want,
Protect me protect me
Protect me from what I want,
Protect me protect me
Protect me from what I want,
Protect me protect me

I have two interpretations, both of them makes sense to me
One is that the song is a refference to the AIDS Pandemic which started at about thirty years ago, making it "The Disease of the age". Also, it is a STD, so it's our fault that it is spreading to everywhere, also making it "The Disease that we crave". The HIV is not rare between teenagers, and it is easily caught at parties and raves, so, at the end of the rave, he goes to home and lives a normal day, which matches with the second verse. Then, the Chorus talks about the sex, it's a temptation that everyone suffers, but it has it's consequences, like pregnancy and AIDS. He asks to be protected from something he wants, which would mean, to be protected from STD's. After the chorus, the verse talks about after he finds out that he has AIDS, and he also speaks for the one he got AIDS from. He says that they are victim of fate, that could have happened to anyone, but fate choose them. They would celebrate, drink and get high until late, but now that they have this disease, they can't go to parties and raves anymore, so now they are all alone. The last verse also speaks about his life and consequences about having AIDS, no one would like to be with an HIV Positive, so they won't get married, and many people still see the HIV like a crime committed by two people, and exclude them from the society. AIDS also don't have a cure, so they have nothing left but to wait, so they are sentenced to time, and, again, they are all alone.
The other one has already been cited which is a reference about the drugs, how they get addicted and how they are excluded from the society. It can also been seen as the disease of the age, and also can be found parties, by other teenagers. It also causes a great temptation, my interpration is that their friends wanted to show them how good the drugs can be, but they didn't want at the start.
And sorry for the bad english, i'm brazilian =x
Some of your opinion seems to be very broad and narrow minded in my opinion. Of course you're entitled to yours but consider this. I'm not sure if you're speaking from personal experience but if so you're far from alone. And that is not true that noone would choose to be with someone with HIV or Aids. Also, that's why in the vows of holy marriage it states through sickness and and health. If a person loves someone it wouldn't matter if they had any kind of disease. And HIV is not a death or life sentence anymore but it's all in a person's attitude and perception and the way they choose to see and live with it. It's very manageable and if treated in the early stages, a person can live a relatively normal life and life span. Lastly, if practiced safely and by the choice of the non infected partner, sex is still an option.
I suppose this would encompass unconditional love.
