Beauty lies inside the eye of another youthful dream
That doesn't sell it's soul for self-esteem
That's not plasticine
Beauty lies inside desire and every wayward heart redeemed
That doesn't sell it's soul for self-esteem
That's not plasticine

Don't forget to be the way you are [x4]

The only thing you can rely on is that you can't rely on anything
Don't go and sell your soul for self-esteem
Don't be plasticine

Don't forget to be the way you are [x4]
And don't forget to be the way you are [x4]
The way you are...

General Comment:People take the saying "be yourself" way too seriously! As humans each and every one of us is unique and complex beyond simplistic comprehension. For example, I have many facets to my personality. I have a hardcore, moshing metal head, talkative, weird and crazy side to me. Then I also have a pro peace and human rights, quiet, poetic, Coldplay/ CrashCarBurn/ Placebo loving side to me. There's so much more to me and I consider it all apart of me and what makes me who I am. So to say that if we were all ourselves we wouldnt have any friends, sounds kinda ludicrous to me. Why wouldnt we have friends? Yeah, sure some people pretend around their friends, but thats not everyone. There's a difference between being yourself and being a different version of yourself. And true friends love you for who you are and not who you pretend to be.

As I see it, this song is about not moulding yourself according to other peoples expectations of you. Dont succumb to social norms and peer pressure. Being what society deems to be acceptable or beautiful might boost yourself esteem, but it fades with youth and then you are left with nothing, but yourself. So its better to love who you are and not rely on others to make you feel worthy.

Great song by a great band! :)

General Comment:Brian: The one song that doesn’t fit into the relationships theme. A classic Placebo song with a classic Placebo theme – individuality

General Comment: Plasticine is like a clay that can be molded into any shape and size. Kind of how some people change everything about themselves just so other people approve of them. Selling your soul for self-esteem. Typical problem found in teens. I know the pressure of wanting to fit in so this song speaks to me.

General Comment:Somehow I always thought this song was a "plastic surgery = baaaaad"-song. But that's probably because I didn't really know what plasticine was.

General Comment:Plasticine is like modelling stuff in bright colours, a bit like clay perhaps. Kids have it and you can make different shapes out of it and remould it. Fun stuff ^^

I agree with the interpretations here, but I really like the way paccy phrased it. That happens a lot around here.

General Comment:i love the line "beauty lies inside desire"
and of course "dont forget to be the way you are" sums it up pretty well, i agree with most of the above comments. but, the song title is spelt wrong, it should be "plasticine". and also i disagree with street spirit, i think that people should try to be the way they are. you think that if you were completely yourself, you would have no friends. maybe if everyone was completely themselves, we would all have different friends, that we got on with better...
